We had the good fortune of connecting with Gran Larson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gran, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I knew sports wasn’t going to work out for me. I always saw myself as a decent writer but I knew I could elevate that. Back in high school is when I started writing along with a few of my homies. Everyday we would have cyphers so you had to make sure your handle was nice. That and along with writing poetry helped create the storytelling aspect of what I like to create. I not much of an “open” person or vocal in most cases. Super introvert but music helps me express myself better than I could in regular conversation. Mad weird I know but don’t trip I’m cool in real life and I feel my music relates that.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is life and the surroundings I see day to day. I always told myself I wouldn’t disrespect my craft creating a fake image to how I life. I really be chilling for real. I love the fact I can gain new potential fans when my music heard. I know there’s people out there that either live the same way I live or can relate to what I speak about. I also appreciate my homies for putting their homies on to my music too. That’s how we build our artist up to do big things and represent the city if the opportunity presents itself. It’s not always easy but you have to stay solid and keep going. Always keep the vision bright. What I did learn about doing/making music is everyone is not out to help you or may not have your best interest at heart. People can and will take advantage of your craft if allowed. Keep that sucka ish on the other side. I’m all about creating dope vibes the people can enjoy over and over. It’s your art, do what you want how you want. F what they talking bout. Feel me?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wherever the pot takes us haha. I’m always down for sushi and pizza so those would be some of my first options to throw out there. Definitely getting a larger watermelon juice from JuiceLand or a Berry Boom Lemonade from 9 Rabbits Bakery. I’m the type to google random spots and pull up to see what it’s hitting for. You wind up running into some dope spots that way.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Peace and Love to my creative homies Curt McGurt and Lyric Bae when it comes to music. They’ve inspired me musically and have help me get better throughout my journey. Also been there for me in real life situations as well. Love to my guy ZavPaul, we created ORLS Original Lifestyle coming from selling merchandise our the trunks of our car and out of his grandfather’s tax office. Met bro in high school my junior year and was cool from jump but we didn’t link formal till after graduation in all. We both was trying to get some money, we both had a love for pot and we both listened to Curren$y heavy. Bro always been solid and it’s alway dope to get money with your homies, even started his own brand “The Space Lounge”. Tap in with my creative homies it’s all love.
