We had the good fortune of connecting with Eunice Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eunice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Photography has always been one of my favorite hobbies. It was my Sophomore year in college, in 2015, when I decided to start 8 Moments Photo. After graduating with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Bilingual Education, I still wanted to pursue my photography business and make it more than just a hobby. I kept thinking how worth it all was in the end if it went well or didn’t for me, and the only way to know was to take a leap of faith. I did not know anything about starting a business then. All I knew was that I had to work hard for what I wanted, educate myself, and pray along the way to get to where I wanted to be. Today, I can humbly say I am not where I use to be business-wise. That is all because of God’s favor and blessing. I thank God for His divine favor that has helped me at basically everything. When I doubted myself in this journey I had to remember to have faith and this scripture has helped me along the way: Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. -1 Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography is centered around the art of storytelling. I enjoy creating art and having each photo gallery transmit emotion. I love how intimate and warm my images feel, and I’m so excited to always keep learning and improving while having fun along the way. What I am most proud of is that I am a self-taught lifestyle photographer. One of my biggest challenges was I did not have a mentor to show me how to edit, deliver galleries, have a logo, build clientele, and so much more. I’m excited to say that this summer of 2021 I will be hosting my very first beginner workshop to educate photographers who want to grow their business. I know what it feels like when you have no one to help you. I want to be a mentor for those who need someone to help them along their journey. I’m especially proud of myself for creating a laid-back environment for my clients because I used to have a really hard time as a naturally introverted person, talking to people that I didn’t know, especially in the setting of me directing clients during a session. I’ve really come into my own over the years and feel so confident in my ability to just enjoy my work, and that in turn allows my clients to relax and have fun themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting Dallas, I would show them my favorites go-to spots: Jonathon’s Oak Cliff for breakfast (they have the best chicken and waffles), Sixty Vines in Downtown Dallas for lunch, Encanto Pops in Oak Cliff for a sweet treat, Cake Bar for a delicious piece of cake, Taqueria El Si Hay in Bishop Arts for tacos, and Beto and Son in Trinity Groves for appetizing Mexican food. I also would suggest going to the AT&T Discovery District in Downtown Dallas for a night stroll and an outside patio. It’s better to go at night time to see the cool lights they have and live music! Lastly, I would also show some of my favorite girls night out restaurants: XOXO Dining Room, Dahlia Bar & Bistro, North Italia, and Te Deseo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If it weren’t for the love and support of my followers and clients, 8 Moments Photo may not have even seen the light of day! However, I do want to recognize and dedicate this to my family. A special shoutout to my dad, Moises, my mom, Gere, my brother, Jair, my sister-in-law, Athena, and my nephew Judah for the steady encouragement and love throughout this journey. They have been my backbone throughout these years of starting my business and I can’t thank them enough. Thanks to them I always feel inspired and encouraged to continue doing what I feel God has called me to do.
