We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ CELEBRITY and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ CELEBRITY, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk taking is ESSENTIAL with being successful in life. Who do you know with millions of dollars, or just wealthy people in general who haven’t taken any risks? I came from a small town in east Texas, so my whole Dallas career has been about me selling myself to these city promoters and club owners that i could do my job as good or better then these other DJ’s from here. It’s still an uphill battle to get some gigs but i have the respect of my peers which means i have somebodies attention.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
i am a dj from a small town in east Texas called Palestine. i feel like where I’m from is important because its a place of very minimal opportunity and i made it out. not only did i make it out, i am beginning to thrive and build a name in a place where i started with nobody to vouch for me or give me a chance. But through about 5 years of constant networking and just being favored by God, i am starting to see some of the fruits of my labor. I feel like I’m different simply because of the work i put in to actually be good at what i do. I know a lot of DJ’s who get opportunities based off who they know and they cant even blend 2 songs together. With me coming into the game not knowing anybody, and not being from the area, just imagine how many “NOs” i heard. I kept my head down and kept grinding and now I’m booked almost every weekend and actually turning down some gigs. Hard work and building solid relationships has really been the key for me, and I’ll preach that till I’m dead and gone.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout to DJ Juice who taught me majority of what i know,

DJ Frosty for giving me my 1st opportunity to DJ in front of his crowds.

DJ Junnie Baby for just being a loyal friend and fellow DJ in Dallas since literally day 1 of me meeting him.

And Ricc Hussle for putting me on play that gave my name a buzz in the city.
