We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Behringer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, what matters most to you?
At Skaska the principal of ethics guides our organization at all levels and is in fact one of our golden rules we practice everyday. We are committed to using sustainable materials and each piece is locally made in Dallas, TX. We responsibly source our precious and semi-precious stones from vendors who follow the Kimberly process (the fight against conflict diamonds) and focus on domestic vendors whenever possible to ensure US labor and environmental laws are met. Integrity, honesty and trust are the pillars of Skaska’s daily culture and the way we run our business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Skaska jewelry is a fine jewelry brand that started out as a dream. Years ago a small seed was planted and since that day Skaska has grown organically. All of my designs are pulled from inspiration around me. I love art, food, nature, travel and everything in between. Handcrafted in Dallas, TX, Skaska uses 10K, 14K and 18K sustainable gold set with precious and semi-precious conflict-free stones. Skaska jewelry was inspired by the belief that jewelry has a way of capturing our special moments and milestones. A collection of those delicate, effortless, and elegant, reminding us of the stories that make up our lives, our “skaskas.” All of this being said I have been building Skaska for 5 years and it has not been easy. My advice is to stay passionate, grow organically so you can learn along the way and not bust your budget, have patience and don’t sweat the small stuff. I am most proud of actually turning my dream into a reality. I was born in Belarus and raised in Dallas, Texas. I was an art consultant and stylist turned jewelry designer. My formal education is in metalsmithing which allows me to create designs that are made to be worn daily and last for generations. Skaska designs are dainty and fine, designed to add a little fairytale sparkle to your everyday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come in town we love to wine, dine, shop and experience this city to the fullest. My all time favorite place to eat dinner is at Tei An. An evening there is always a wonderful experience for any foodie. Uchi, Alice, Boullion, Rise No 1, The Charles and their new place next door are also great! Northpark mall or highland park village would be on our list to bop around and do some shopping. West Village too! A walk on the Katy Trail, yoga or pilates is always nice to squeeze in. Live music is always high up on our list. The kessler is a great venue!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to Bill Holman and his design group. Bill is a master jeweler who generously offers his guidance and expertise. Bill has been a mentor to me and his support is very much appreciated. Thank you, Bill!
