Meet Dernisha Gooden | Cake Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dernisha Gooden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dernisha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Baking pretty much came natural for me. Watching my mom, aunts and granny slay in their kitchens was always so amazing to see. I’m a mother of 3 so I have always enjoyed baking my kids something sweet, especially for their birthday’s. I always wanted to make their day even more special. So I would bake them their own personal cakes, cookies or brownies. I really enjoy being a cake artist.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if it wasn’t for my family. They have seen me grow and supported me through the process. From my mom Susie, she is the reason I started selling my Banana pudding first before I even took caking serious. My dad Ronnie, who I recently lost this year. My husband Mr. Gooden, who is such a big fan of what I do. He’s pretty much my business partner. The way he helps me deliver my extra large wedding cakes without a complaint. He even has to help me set up my sweets displays sometimes. My brothers. My daughter Courtney who is such a great artist herself. She assist me sometimes with small tasks. My sis in law, Aunt and Cousin been there since day one of my business. My growth is so amazing and these special people play such a big role in my business. The love I have for them is unmatched. I will continue to make them all proud. And a Big special Shout out to all my Clients. The real MVP’s thank you all so much for continuing to support and trust me. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if it wasn’t for you all.
