We had the good fortune of connecting with Davesha Sowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started with me being a fashion model. As I stated in the last interview, I was going to all sorts of events, fashion shows, creative meet ups just to network and actually learn what the fashion industry is about. I wanted to know the ins and outs of everything from how they put a show/event together, who plays what role in a photoshoot, how to get published and more! I’ve always received questions on how to start this and how to start that, especially when it comes to starting a modeling career, so i wanted to have answers to those questions. I’ve studied the fashion industry for about 6 years. I’ve met individuals who I will keep around for a lifetime and I’ve met individuals who I will keep my distance from. Overall though, it’s the best life choice i’ve ever made. The vibes and energy I get when around other creatives makes me feel differently, in a good way. A feeling I wanted everyone to feel and an experience I wanted everyone to experience. That’s when I came up with a mother agency. I don’t know if anyone is into astrology, but I’m a Cancer, the mother of zodiacs. I wanted to be the home of creatives/models, give them opportunities to expand, and watch them grow.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The DFW area already does not have many agencies, especially mother agencies. Alluring Temptations has open arms to not just models, we work with music artists, artists, photographers, stylist, makeup artist, hair stylists, and more! I think that’s what sets us apart from others. I’m studying to get a BA in Business Marketing and a minor in Management. I’ve been taking all of that knowledge to put into my own business. The beginning process wasn’t easy at all. There’s so many documents for a business it can becoming super confusing. Thankfully, I have a family who have all ran their own businesses before, making it easier for me to overcome a lot of challenges. Along the way I’ve learned that not everyone has best interest in the industry, and to do your research. Not everyone wants what’s best for you. Nothing good comes from bad. So just be good to people.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
First place we would go would be NEP Studios in downtown Dallas. It’s creative city there and we would shoot some pictures together, you can shop, network. Then we would go to Red Claw, if you’re my best friend, you love seafood and so do I. It’s always a wait there, but it’s worth it! Driving downtown at night, with the music blasting & windows down, singing at the top of my lungs is always my favorite. Candytopia is pretty cool. Especially for someone who loves to take photos. It’s like a photo museum. So many cool areas and props to use to take pictures and have them for memories. Watching the sunrise, walking the Trinity River is another one of my favorite things to do in the morning. Your waist won’t snatch itself! Sometimes, I like to hang out on 7th street, downtown, fort worth. It’s a pretty lit place to bar-hop and get carried to the car.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the creative community. Everyone in the DFW that i’ve cross paths with during this journey, I truly thank you. I wouldn’t be anywhere without someone messaging me to come here or shoot here, or even throwing networking events to give individuals like us a chance! I would like to thank my family and friends for being there to support me emotionally. My parents, for always believing in me and motivating me. Lastly, I would like to thank my team. I appreciate all the genuine support and love everyone has shown the business and me! This is something huge for me and I thank all of them for just being patient and understanding that this isn’t something that will blow up overnight. This is something you have to be passionate and believe in. And my team does just that. We motivate one another, applaud accomplishments, and love one another as family.
