We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Gil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue a more creative career path because at a young age I recognized that I had various passions and proficiencies. I loved athletics – both training and coaching – but I also loved speaking, teaching and writing. I wanted to create content that would impact other’s lives for good. I realized that being an entrepreneur would allow me to do all those things and more.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I train and compete as a professional level OCR Ninja Warrior Athlete. I have competed on the popular television show American Ninja Warrior for seven seasons (and counting), as well as other similar tv shows. I have done competitions both in the US and abroad. I have been a coach of this new and popular sport for almost ten years, teaching classes, private lessons and gym clinics about functional fitness and OCR (Obstacle Course Racing). Over the years competing on the show as one of the top competitors, I have had more than my fair share experiencing the blood, sweat and tears of training, the exciting finishes and crushing defeats has given me quite the platform. With that platform came the opportunity and requests to begin doing motivational speaking and sharing my story of overcoming obstacles whether physical, mental, or emotional. I speak at Universities, Corporate events, school assemblies, summer camps, gym events, fundraisers, youth conferences, church functions, guest appearances and more on a regular basis throughout the year, I love the opportunity to encourage, inspire, and speak on life’s many differing obstacles and how we don’t have to stay down or give up when we are pushed to our limits. I’ve also authored several books, one already published and several others on the way in the next year. I will continue to use my passions and abilities to make an impact for good in this world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is know for its size, food, and diversity. I would first drive them around the city just to experience the shear scope and magnitude that is the greater houston area. Then I might take them to the museum district, a favorite restaurant, some incredible ice cream…all hidden gems I’ve found over the years of living here. The Post is pretty great and a great view of the city. I have taken many visiting friends to buffalo bayou park as well to rent the scooters and take in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my wife, Abby, who is my treasure and my joy. Also my family, friends, students and mentors who have helped support and guide me over the years. Most importantly God for giving me the platform in the first place.
