We had the good fortune of connecting with Dahlia Juarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dahlia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve been immersed in the world of art since childhood, starting with sketching still life’s and portraits at a very young age. My artistic journey led me to attend an arts magnet high school and eventually pursue a career in the art field, a path that felt instinctive for me. Despite briefly exploring a non-art-related direction, I swiftly realized it wasn’t my true calling. My heart thrives in creativity, and my hands are crafted to build and shape tangible beauty.
Drawing, and painting were my initial loves in the art realm, which I still miss dearly since it has been too long since I’ve dedicated time to them. However, my newfound passion for florals and floral design has blossomed, adding a delightful dimension to my artistic endeavors. I am an artist, and I can’t envision myself pursuing any other path.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self-taught florist with a deep love for nature and art. Growing up, my mom’s dedication to her garden left a lasting impression. My journey into floristry began when my partner started showering me with flowers, reigniting my passion. Purchasing a home sparked my interest in filling blank spaces with vibrant florals, leading to the inception of my business on Mother’s Day.
Despite being self-taught, my artistic background and hands-on approach allowed me to quickly adapt and continue learning the art of floristry. Supported by my creative family, I’ve built a business that goes beyond just me. My goal is to inspire others with marvelous creations and expand my presence in the wedding industry, bringing symbolic representations of love to couples’ special days.
Establishing my business was challenging with navigating paperwork, costs, and responsibilities. Facing pushback from those unfamiliar with working for oneself, I learned to push aside negative energy. Balancing family, school, and a regular job was tough, but I learned to prioritize and find balance for a more fulfilling life.
My brand’s story is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the collaborative spirit of those around me. One of my biggest takeaways is to keep going, as nothing worthwhile comes easy; passion requires continuous effort and dedication.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, this is a tough one! Being a bit of a homebody, my ventures out are a bit limited, but I do have my city favorites. When it comes to dining, I’m a fan of Norma’s Cafe, Calle Doce, La Paisanita Tacos, Country Burger, Hunky’s, Eno’s, and JG’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers. Alex Ice Cream has the best elotes! For entertainment, Alamo Drafthouse and Galaxy Drive-Inn are my top choices, and Bowl Lounge is a go-to for fun and their wings and nachos- YUM! Thrifting would definitely make the list. I could thrift for hours! Nature walks at White Rock or anywhere that has trails are a peaceful joy. I’m into crafting and creating, so spontaneous events like candle making, pottery, painting or cake decorating, etc. catch my interest. Yet, my ultimate pleasure lies in enjoying home comforts – whipping up cocktails, setting the mood with music, playing games, watching movies, relishing delicious food, all with the presence of good company.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and children serve as my sources of inspiration. Whenever I entertain the most ambitious ideas, my husband consistently stands by me, offering his support without hesitation. Even in moments of doubt about my ability to tackle a task, project, or goal, he gently reminds me of the remarkable feats I’ve achieved, providing that bit of oxygen I need to breathe again.
As for my sons, they illuminate my world. Their sweet words of appreciation, admiration for my work, and their interest to help allow me to believe that I am imparting something truly valuable to shape their characters. Though they may not fully grasp it now, I am diligently constructing a foundation for them, so that one day, they can independently build their own futures.
The person I’ve become is a testament to the influences of the remarkable individuals who guided me here – mi Ama y Apa. Both imparted life’s most crucial values, and I witnessed their unwavering work ethic throughout my upbringing. Hustle became a defining characteristic, instilled in me by parents who tirelessly worked to provide for our family of seven. Their dedication is something I’ll be eternally grateful for, and my admiration for them knows no bounds. It’s from them that I derive my resilience, empathy, family-centric mindset, respect, and self-starting nature, shaping me into a well-rounded individual.
