We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal/Jennifer Jansa/Klassen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal/Jennifer, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When we first started Gather in 2011 Crystal was single and had all the time in the world, while Jennifer still worked in corporate America and spent her weekends helping with finances and working brunch. All of our time was spent growing Gather as a wedding venue and small business that makes an impact in the McKinney community. Fast forward to 2021 and Crystal is married with a 4 and 2 year old, while Jennifer has started working Gather full time. Crystal moved to west texas to support her husband in farming and Jennifer has taken on each bride as her own daughter. While our daily lives have changed a bit our focus of growing Gather both in the industry and in McKinney community has not changed. We love all the families we meet and are so blessed by the continued support of all our clients. If Jennifer is not actively at Gather I can promise her off time is spent with one or all of her grandkids.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are firm believers that when you book your wedding or event at Gather it is more than just the venue. Being located on the historic downtown McKinney square gives our guests an opportunity to see the entire community we love and are so proud to be a part of. Gather has been in McKinney for 10 years and has been such a huge part of our success. Owning Gather has been nothing but easy; in 2011 when we opened there were 12 venues in McKinney, now there are over 25. We chose to stay a small historic venue for intimate weddings and that is what sets us apart from other venues. With the historic design of the building you don’t have to add a whole lot to your event but at the same time a lavish affair is forever beautiful. Gather was a leap of faith that our family took and while we’ve had lots of success we have also had our moments of stress. In 2016 we bought our building and then of course there is the whole COVID outbreak which has almost shut down the idea of weddings as a whole. We continue everyday to put all our ideas in motion to make sure that every bride has their perfect day no matter what outside obstacles there might be. Your day is our day too! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It may sound cheesy but our entire families deserve the credit of our success. Without them we would not be able to work the long/random hours we do. We have called on each of them at least once to help with Gather in some way and they always say yes…..almost always :).
