We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney + Raymond Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney + Raymond, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Courtney: I actually started my own photography business 8 years ago. Prior to that, I was always taking photos on my phone, disposable cameras, polaroids, etc and have always just loved photos and looking back on memories. After having children, I was constantly documenting them with each milestone. One day I “borrowed” my dad’s DSLR camera and never gave it back. Shout out to my dad! Ray: I began my career as a filmmaker by making home videos of our children. I then started out filming random projects with my phone that produced 4k video and Courtney’s camera. After filming my first small wedding, I realized I had eye for it. From there, I bought better equipment, started my own videography business, and then about a year later we decided to merge forces. That’s when Ten Eleven film+photography was created. We wanted to offer photo and video services for other people who want to capture their own memories and milestones. Ten Eleven is the month and day we got married. 🙂

What should our readers know about your business?
Courtney: We are very proud of how our business has grown since 2019 when we created Ten Eleven. Even with the pandemic, we have grown a lot and have had so many opportunities to document so many families and love stories. I also have a background in Customer Success, so I take pride in our customer service and strive for it to be exceptional from beginning to end. With that said, A LOT of our business has come from word of mouth, so we are pretty proud of that. Ray: I agree. I think what sets us apart is being able to offer both photo and video services for couples on their wedding day. We’ve learned a lot of couples prefer to have the same vendor making it more convenient for them. I also love that we get to document important memories for people that will be cherished for years to come. It’s cool to be part of that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Courtney: We don’t really get out a whole lot with having 4 kids, but we do like to explore downtown areas and visit record stores and boutiques!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Courtney: Honestly, Ray, my husband, was so super supportive of me when I started my photography career. I remember taking photos of him and his son when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend. They were one of my first sessions and he was just so encouraging and it helped push me to keep going. Also, have to thank the community of photographers in the Facebook groups I am in. 🙂 Ray: Uh, duh, my wife. Literally, if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am as a videographer because she has always inspired and supported me and believed in me when I doubted myself.
