We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Moore-Odum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Everything has its risks. I just choose to be on the “riskier” side of things. There’s not a lot of men that sew, so yes it would seem risky cause you just don’t see it. I took a risk moving to Dallas but it was the best decision I could have made for my life because of the exposure to things I’ve never seen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a seamster who enjoys sewing Men and womenswear. There’s not a lot of men in the industry who can sew, or that want to sew. I started sewing in high school selling ties and bow ties, then I started to take apart clothes I already had to learn how they were constructed. Most recently I entered the leather industry and sewed leather products for a small leather company.I learned patience and how to see things through to the finish. Especially with sewing, you get so excited to see your final product that you tend to skip steps or sew something backwards or any of the many things that could go wrong. I taught myself how to sew and it had be one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever learned how to do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still discovering gems in the city, but from where I’ve gone, I’d take him to a cigar lounge that’s a frequent for me. Case de Montecristo. Wed go brunch at Snooze or the Henry. Grab drinks at Jax Beer Garden. Hangout at the Happiest hour. I still haven’t gone to the Perot museum so that’s a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I’d like to thank Franke Mille and Jon McFadden. These guys played a pivotal role in molding the guy I am today. They introduced me to the freedom of owning your own time. They also showed me “THE HUSTLE” of having your own business. In college I joined the PFS team where I help organize a few projects and events in different cities across the U.S. I’m from a small city in Alabama that, at the time, didn’t have many small businesses operating like we were; if any at all. The more I traveled to bigger cities like Houston, Atlanta, and L.A. , I started to meet more creatives and small business owners that had flourishing businesses. Which sparked something for me. I live in Dallas now but if it wasn’t for the exposure to new things and the lesson these guys taught me, I don’t think I would have ever moved and believed in myself to do my own thing.
