We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Reinecke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Reinecke Design because I love what I do. As a graphic designer, I am in the business of literally helping others visualize their success. It started mostly as an opportunity to gain more comprehensive experience and face new challenges that were not available in the standard 9-5. But, passion is contagious, and it wasn’t long before it took on a life of its own.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my brand and creative consultancy, Reinecke Design, as a way of trying to push my limits as a creative and strategist.
I knew that the structure of a full-time meant operating under certain limitations, and admired the mindset of the entrepreneur, which is one of constant growth, and wearing multiple hats! So, as a way of honoring my heroes, I sought to build a small business of my own in the side, where I could experiment, explore, and challenge myself, while empowering business leaders to do what they do best.
What makes Reinecke Design a great partner is that, while creativity is at the heart of what we do, we are not content to make pretty things. Our core belief is that “Design is the act of creating with purpose, on purpose.” This driving philosophy holds us accountable to measurable outcomes and functionality—things that many designers do not consider their responsibility.
Building my business has not been easy. I’ve sacrificed many evenings and weekends, in order to keep my clients satisfied. For the first few years, I was even struggling to get my pricing strategy right, and reach the right people. Overcoming challenges like these took some time, but gaining new knowledge and insights helped me to uncover a new vision for Reinecke Design.
If I was struggling in this area, then surely others were, too—So, once I gained a grasp on the frameworks that made such a practical difference in my own business, I saw an opportunity to help others by offering a more comprehensive approach to brand — one that aligned creative strategy with business strategy, even more closely.
The most important thing to know about Reinecke Design is that we are here to give your business a voice. We ask thoughtful questions, and work alongside our clients to gain as much insight as possible, before trying to solve problems. In the end, creating beautiful marketing materials is a byproduct of much more detailed and strategic work.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my Shoutout to my wife, Bethany Reinecke. We started our life together and started raising a family, very young, and she has been there through some amazing highs and low lows, and everywhere in between. She was by my side when I was deciding what to do with my career, when I was in school, through multiple job losses, and starting a business—all while we were raising our three children, together. And of course, my kids Caitlan, Juliana, and Alex should get some credit, too – for kicking me into “provider mode,” in my 20s, and for all of the understanding they’ve shown, when I’ve had projects, and for even being my first employees, when they were able. I am where I am today, because of the life we all have together.
