We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe McGlover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The second you decide that you want to start a business the risk immediately begins. You start planning your money and getting your ideas together for the vision God has given you. It’s like stepping out on faith. It’s a major risk to decide to be a business owner. When I finally said I’m gonna go for it I scaled back my hours from my fully financially supportive job to free up some time for my own business. People around me were supportive but slightly negative about me taking the leap . So I didn’t tell everyone what I was doing because I didn’t want their negative thoughts to seep into my courage. I’m not gonna lie it was hard for a few months there. Some of the clients that I thought would immediately transfer over didn’t. I had to just keep marketing and know that if you build it they will come! I went a couple of months seriously worried that I wasn’t going to be able to pay all my bills but I had to leave my schedule open enough to see clients of my own. I eventually was fired from that other job because I was editing my own schedule acting like it was my business. Lol but everything started lining up perfectly because by them letting me go it really allowed my schedule to open up to be filled with my own clientele. I wouldn’t take back jumping off the entrepreneurial Cliff for anything in the world.
My parents are business owners so following in their footsteps makes them very happy. Side note my parents business name is oasis office product and I have given a nod to them with my business name being Massage Artz at the oasis. They definitely paved the way in showing me the kind of courage and tenacity that is needed to be successful. They also showed me that people buy people. So I show my clients my loving soul and give them quality service. I strive for excellence everyday knowing that this risk is worth it not just for me but for my son too. He’s proud of his mommy <3 OHH there’s an added bonus! Since this is MY massage suite I get to display my artwork on the walls. Every piece in my room is a piece that I made. In fact I just sold another piece today!
What should our readers know about your business?
“Massage Artz” integrates different techniques creatively to help relax, relieve, and release minor to major aches and pains. I specialize in VERY effective Swedish, Deep tissue, Hot Stone, and Cupping Bodywork that’s included in every customizable session. With my background in Physical and Occupational therapy it was only natural for me to use that knowledge and experience creatively in my massage therapy practice. Because of that training and experience I have a different kind of understanding for the body and our muscles. I also have EXCELLENT palpation skills and can almost see (with my hands) what’s going on so I can attack it whichever way that specific area needs. I literally can feel the difference between a muscle toxin issue and a sarcomere issue in the muscle. It just feels different to me. That’s my gift. Other massage therapists have different gifts…but that’s mine. Also because of this palpation sensitivity I can trace the finest pulling to where the origin of a problem is coming from. Some credit is of course given to my schooling ( Southern California Health Institute (SOCHI) and how they taught us to work on our clients muscles. We start from the route before we get to what’s bothering them. I like to tell my clients that whatever is hurting you is likely the victim NOT the culprit. My job as their massage therapist is to find the culprit and stop it/reverse it from doing what it’s doing causing you pain.
These little gifted hands have helped a lot of people change their lives from being in constant pain to LIVING PAIN FREE!! And that’s what makes me so happy and why I love doing what I do! One of my lovely sisters lives in Seattle Washington and is in pain everyday because of a car accident she had many many years ago. I can’t work on her because she’s so far away except for when she comes to visit. When she does come to visit those 2 weeks after coming to see me are her only 2 weeks that year without pain. I give my clients the love and care that I wish I could give my sister everyday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love shops of legacy! my favorite restaurant is earls kitchen. I love their eclectic pallet and how they put things together. it may be something simple but the way they do it is never simple and I love their thought process of how they mix flavors and come out with something that doesn’t sound like it would be good but it ends up being delicious! I would then take her to spa Castle so we can lay around, drink, laugh, and relax. After that if were even up for anything else if it’s a Sunday we might go to soulful Sundays at lava cantina in the Colony.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Patty Brito Photography!! She was a client and hunted me down once I left the massage franchise. She helped me brand my business. She took my first photos that looked extremely professional because she’s a photographer at no charge to me. She took my little business under her wings and helped me to soar. We got my colors together for my website and my business cards that also transferred over into my massage room. Branding branding branding and I don’t think I would be this far along had she not have helped me so much! Now she is my longest standing member. She helped me to think bigger than I was and to see that my business was going to do great because I am great at what I do!
