We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Catherine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved art..whether it was paintings, sculptures or photography. As such, I embarked going back to school and getting my degree in photography. As it,my photography took off, I opened a studio. From there I wanted a gallery to support the local artist in the area. In 2018 I purchased my now gallery in Malakoff, Texas. This gallery is all about local artist and getting their work out in the publics eye.

What should our readers know about your business?
Artful Thinking Gallery is a gallery for lical artist to show their work to the public and the only gallery on Cedar Creek Lake. The gallery justbhad a face-lift and it is beautiful! So very excited to see all the artistbin thebarea coming in and asking to be in a show or a spotlight show. Going through blood ,sweat and plenty of tears has brought me to where i am now. Perseverance and believe in yourself is the key to success along with a supportive community. Always remember who helped you get to where you are but never forget where you came from..be humble.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are several things to see and do around the lake. Vernon’s for dinner and cocktails outside on the patio watching the boats and sunset. Definitely coming to Malakoff and shop all the quaint stores here then a special stop at HF Family Table and Market for an upscale dinner or glass of wine. Not only here in Malakoff but a few miles down the road (Athens..Texas Gallery and Edom, Texas )are art galleries and an art community. There you can find a plethora of artistic lovelies!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people involved in my success..the whole downtown area of Malakoff and its business owners. Without their constant push and encouragement,, I might have thrown in the towel. My biggest influence and cheerleader was my Father, James R. Turn, A very successful business man and my mentor. He passed November 2019.
