We had the good fortune of connecting with Caleb Coonrod from the Denton-based band Remain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caleb, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The purpose of Remain is to make music that enhances the lives of others.

As far as goals go, we have three primary goals: 1.) Become a great band. 2.) Write great songs. 3.) Play those songs/have them played in places where they will be heard. I believe if we focus on these three things and block out all of the trivial things, that everything else pertaining to a career in the music industry will take care of itself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about sharing the songs from our recent album “Millennial Nation” with others. I am also excited about performing the album live and gearing up to record new material. Professionally, we are working hard to get where we are going. We want this music to be our full-time career and life’s work. I am certain this will happen eventually.

Starting this band, keeping the band together, and moving on from numerous setbacks has been a struggle at times, Some things we’ve had to go get, and some things we’ve had to wait for. But… to quote Frederick Douglass, “if there is no struggle, there is no progress.” This is serious and real for us–we’re in for the long run.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a family man with many obligations, so I’m not sure what a week off with friends would look like. DFW is full of great people, venues, restaurants, and locations. Perhaps we’d spend some time in downtown Denton, or maybe we’d just throw our phones away and talk to each other.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to issue an echoing shoutout to God, to my wife Kailey and my daughter Day, to the guys in the band: Perry Hill (drums) Caleb Evans (bass), to all the musicians/voices that played/sang on “Millennial Nation” (Jonathan McNary, Michael Rosser, Clark Erickson, Lonnie Shane Heffernan, George Miadis, Kris Wallace, Anna Price), to Eric Delegard at Reeltime audio, to Raylon Dukes for being a friend and teacher, and to our manager Robert Speed (Robert Speed Productions) for being there for us daily.
