Meet Brooke MacNicol: Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke MacNicol and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Creating your own business can seem quite daunting. My journey in particular came alongside many risks. When I started my own business my first priority was to write out what I wanted it to be. Transparent was the most emphasized. I didn’t want to hide pricing and markups, I didn’t want to have extra little fees my clients had to be concerned with… rather be upfront with how my business works and focus on being 100% transparent. Second was work ethic or what I like to call passion. It accounts for the sleepless nights, the 16 hour days, and giving my clients my very best at all times. Third was to stay humble. Seeing other business owners get ahead of themselves and fall brought this to mind. Success is a beautiful blessing and one that shouldn’t be taken for granted. I remind myself daily of where I’m from, how hard I’ve worked and how much I’ve yet to learn. It makes the everyday much sweeter and less stressful.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started Brooke MacNicol Design, I wanted to change the design industry. Interior Design has an elite connotation to it and is typically reserved for the 1%, or so I’ve seen in my experience. I decided that my business would cater to all people in all walks of life and this is what I’m extremely passionate about. How would we do this? We let our clients decide how involved they want us to be. Many of our clients just need assistance on a small part of their project such as paint colors, product selections, space planning, or choosing a contractor. We created an hourly service where you can schedule a couple hours at a time with no contract and no commitment to a full design package. Our A la Carte has grown to be one of our most popular services. We offer full service design packages as well for those who prefer to be hands off completely and we bring your dream home to life. Fit with design presentations, access to custom options and more this package has allowed us to bring clients to tears seeing the new home they’ve been patiently waiting for. Lastly, our renovation and remodeling services are a desired service for those who are overwhelmed with finding a contractor and discussing what is possible in your project. We work hand in hand with preferred contractors, create a design, walk you through product selections and oversee the project to insure you are elated with the finished product. Our focus is quality workmanship, passing on wholesale pricing on materials to insure you invest in the best and have a space that will stand the test of time. So what really sets us apart from the rest? Your money. We are focused on SAVING you money! We don’t make commissions or markup furniture, in turn this means we aren’t attempting to grow your budget in order to make more. In fact, when working with us, you receive trade discounts from your favorite stores that are passed directly to you. Our ever growing vendor list is viewable on our website! We live for the before and after, the passion behind the project and our clients jumping up and down when they walk into their new home. You are what drives us to be different, to be better and to keep growing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is a beautiful city with many of my favorite places. I’m a sucker for good food and gorgeous interiors so when hosting friends I take them on a tour. For brunch Chelsea’s corner, the Henry, or Overeasy. For an early coffee before, you have to be enamored by Otto’s coffee and fine foods. Lunch just around the corner, you better head over to Deep Ellum to decide between Deep Sushi, Braindead brewing or if you are lucky (and early) some mouthwatering BBQ from Pecan Lodge. I love a brisk walk on Katy trail or shopping in West Village to breakup the day before heading to dinner. Pre-dinner drinks at Happiest Hour rooftop followed by CBD provisions, Perry’s or Meso Maya. There are sites and sound’s wherever you go, stay with happy company and enjoy all Dallas has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people have impacted my life, but most importantly would be my dad. Being a successful entrepreneur himself, he lead by example. He probably doesn’t know it but even at a small age I took note of the time and energy he put into his business to provide for our family. He instilled a drive and work ethic in my siblings and myself that very few possess. I remember a time he said “Treat every job, no matter how small, as if it were you own business and your customers like they are your own.” This statement has stuck in my head from early on and still impacts me greatly. Business comes with failure, learning, challenges and opportunity. He’s witnessed all of these. Being a dreamer and at times having my head in the clouds, he’s the voice of reason who plants my feet back on land. From financials, work ethic, morals, faith and family.. he set me up for success before I had even begun. I can’t thank him enough.
