We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Kimrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been taking photos since I was old enough to use a disposable camera. I remember always asking my parents for a new one each time we walked past them at the store. I loved the feeling of seeing the moments I captured for my family, and the times we would spend looking over them. Not long after that I received my first digital camera (definitely showing my age here). Needless to say, taking photos has always been a passion for me. I wanted to be the person at weddings, events, or in a studio/ outdoors capturing special moments for others. The name had to have my maiden name in it for family means the world to me. All of the special moments we’ve had made me into who I am today. My family and husband are my support and are always there to help me in every way they can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Wright Photography is more than any ordinary photography business. I strive to not only show and express my creative skills when capturing moments for my clients, but I also try and incorporate their voice in the shoots as well. I strive to capture life in the moment, for those moments are precious. If done with care, those moments can last forever! I want to see the joy and happiness in my clients faces when they first see their galleries. That moment for me is everything. I am most excited for the future of my business. The harder I work and take risks of putting myself out there, the more rewarding it will become. I have big aspirations that I feel will come true in time. I put my faith in God, and give my all in everything that I do! Without my faith, family, friends, and husband, I would not see the fun adventures photography has to offer in my future.
Like I mentioned above, my business is where it is today, because of the support of my husband, friends, family, and my faith. I have always loved taking photos and want to spread that love with others around me in this world. I believe as a libra, having a balance of organization and consistency is key! I try my best to stay organized with my communication between clients, my website, as well as client portfolios. I make an effort to stay consistent in engaging my audience and future clients in the work that I am doing, as well as keep them updated on the types of shoots I have done. Lastly, another factor that makes my business as successful is my drive for every photoshoot: Capturing moments and the essence of my clients. I always try and get some background information of who my clients are and what they are wanting to capture in their sessions. These moments are temporary, but the photos last a lifetime.
This journey has not always been easy. I definitely had to learn to throw myself out there, be confident, and take risks along the way. I feel like those risks are important to take for it drives me to push myself to be the best I can be and more. I seek to constantly rise, even if that means falling from time to time. That is when the learning happens for me. I had to do the research on the most common practices, and best websites for my clients to reach me, gather photos, and learn a bit about my work and myself. I have also studied different techniques from other photographers to hone in on my craft. Taking the risk of putting my photos out there and trying new things was hard at first. However, there is something thrilling and fun that comes with taking such risks in the end. The journey of trying to be a known photographer may be tough, but I’m sure it will be so rewarding in the end!
If anything, I want the world to know that I don’t look at my business as a job or just a quick hobby. I am beyond passionate about my photography. Capturing their special moments and seeing their heartwarming reactions to final photos is what fuels my passion. I work hard to help deliver memories not just photos. This business means so much to me, for it allows me to let my creativity shine. It gives not only myself a voice, but my clients as well! Thank you to everyone who has given me a chance thus far, and those who continue to support me. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. This is only the beginning of great things to come!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Fort Worth! It has so much to offer from rual areas to urban. What I love most about it is the “Cow-town” vibe! If you know me, I LOVE my cows. There are so many places to go, I don’t know where to begin.

As far as food goes, some of the best brunch spots are Brewed, Fixture, and Social House! Brewed is my absolute favorite (ask for the shrimp and grits or chicken and waffles!). Wanting some yummy lunch or dinner? Gemelle is such a gorgeous spot with delicious food and drinks. Nona Tata is an Italian restaurant on Magnolia that makes me feel as if I were eating outside in Italy! Next up is Mash’d. Their chicken and biscuits accompanied by the Jolly Rancher are my favorite things to order! Last but not least, if you are wanting Asian food and are willing to drive downtown, there is a delicious restaurant called Hoya. My husband and I would walk from our apartment and go there all the time. They never disappointed!

If you are wanting great places to get adult beverages, I would definitely recommend Magnolia street and Main Street! There are so many places to hang out and enjoy a beverage of your choosing. Some places to name are Fixture, The Proper, Thompsons (downtown), and Cru which is in the Clearfork area!

Struggling to decide where to visit or hang out? No worries! If you have never been to Fort Worth, I highly recommend the Stock Yards, Modern Art Museum, Trinity Trails by the Trinity River, the Bass Hall, and last but not least the Fort Worth Zoo (Voted number 1 zoo at one point in the USA)! If you are wanting to get competitive the Bowl Lounge is a cool, fun, and chill place to go! However if you are wanting to party it out and dance, I would recommend West 7th Street.

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with visiting Fort Worth!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my supporting, loving, and amazing husband, family, and friends who never stop encouraging me to live this dream as a photographer. I couldn’t do this without their endless support!
