We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Alvarado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’m a wife, mom of 3 plus a dog, event decorator and a crafter. I love that I can help people make their parties more fun and unique. I’ve always had a creative edge, as a kid I always loved to draw. As a child, I remember being excited about rearranging my room, but I wasn’t like any other kid; I would draw out the layout and draw where I wanted my bed, TV, etc. The idea never even occurred to me until just before I graduated high school and decided to pursue a career in interior design. During my college years, I met many creative people and learned how to use many software programs, including Photoshop. The software instantly captivated me, so I started designing digital invitations and editing my daughter’s photos. Thirteen years ago, I recreated the theme for my daughter’s first birthday, including a banner, invitations, centerpieces, etc. After the success of that, I was asked to do other types of decorations. Over the years I perfected my craft. Little did I know that making parties for my daughter was going to spark a hobby. My family and friends continuously told me to take it to the next level, and here I am after many trial and errors.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I try to stay as busy as I can by creating new designs and taking classes to learn new crafting trends. This helps me market my work at another level. I based my creations on the type of event I am being hired for, it involves my customers wants and needs but a touch of my creativity. Growing up in a Mexican home where we always had a celebration made me fall in love with the party planning, This made me more aware of missing details such as the needs of everybody, adults and children alike. Being able to fulfill one of my dreams and embrace different cultural needs is something I am very proud of. MIX Party Creations was born as a result of me being a proud Mexican and having a mixed family. My goal is to leave my customers with a lasting impression of my creativity and how my creations made their parties unique and memorable. Eventually, I hope to have my own party ballroom where people can celebrate their events and leave with great memories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her shopping, then go to a causal outdoor restaurant, and then check out various events.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank those who encouraged me, stayed on top of me, and lifted me up when I doubted myself. Above all, I would like to thank my husband, Pat, for being my rock and anchor in all of my business decisions. There are no words to describe how grateful I am to have him as a supporter and friend.
