We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernard Phillip and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bernard, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe strongly the Most Important factor of my success is the ability to be Crisp, Dignified and Professional always. This has become a Brand of now Service Beyond Expectation.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This has truly been a journey…, Here at Phillip & Sons we serve over 150 families annually with Crisp, Dignified Professional service, and to that end families since 2018 have been given Service Beyond Expectation. This road hasn’t been easy, I started this Journey at the tender age of 7, working at one of the local funeral homes in Gainesville, while learning the trade I later went to Atlanta to mortuary school where I then was taught the Theory of Funeral Service crediting Gus Thornhill, Darrell Watkins, I, Willie Watkins, Gregory Levett, Gregory Burrell and others. Then afforded me the Knowledge to start my own business 20 years or so later. I’ve learned that people don’t mind, paying for something as long as they can see Value in what they’re paying for. If I can leave one thing with the world about Phillip & Sons and Bernard that would be we care about you and your loved one and we will Provide Services that are Crisp, Dignified and Professional always.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would most definitely go for Dinner at Marks Prime Steakhouse if Gainesville, I would do lunch in the beautiful city of Melrose at Blue Water Bay, We would get drinks and a cigar at Havana’s Downtown Gainesville. And end the week with shopping at Town Center in Jacksonville, Florida

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
But of course I wouldn’t be where I am today without Gods Grace and Mercy…. After which there are 3 Individuals that I hold to Hogh regards, Gus Thornhill, Jr., Donna Smith and Robin Crawford all of which taught me the fundamentals of hard work, perseverance and to have Education of my craft…. I salute these individuals.
