We had the good fortune of connecting with Belinda Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Belinda, why did you pursue a creative career?
Choosing to be artistic or creative speaks a lot of volume. If I can’t show you who I am for whatever reason, I can show you through my art, through my makeup. You may see me do a colorful look and it’ll show you the happy bubbly person that I am. Being creative also brings your mind to a different head space, especially when you need a therapy session from a very tough mental breakdown!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do makeup as an escape. I recently got diagnosed with anxiety, depression and PTSD. I will be lying if I said…I do makeup every time I’m depressed or to make me happy. Because there’s definitely times where I can’t even get up or times I don’t think of makeup at all. But when I do it makes me feel the most beautiful and confident person I need to be. It’s been a hard journey to get where I am today, because I have given up plenty of times. But each time I do I come back better! The love from my family has made me overcome many of the challenges I had to go through (depression). I’ve learned now that the key is to really FIGHT. Fight the demons who tell you that you aren’t good enough! Get up and keep pushing. Cry all you want but never forget who you are, Who god made you, and how much people love you! I want everyone to know that it gets better when you get up and start fighting your thoughts, and start realizing your worth and potential. Sometimes a lot of people don’t look out for you, they see potential in you but don’t acknowledge you, they have ways to get you connected to bigger and better opportunities but won’t because they’re only looking out for themselves and see you as a competition. So it’s important to look out for yourself and believe in you because at the end of the day people with envy will only look at you as competition. Surround yourself with people who truly support you and encourage you. Surround yourself with people who have goals in life, who push you and introduce you to new opportunities, push you out of your comfort zone. Most importantly surround yourself with people that love you! Those are the people you need. Take care of yourself and your mental health and everything will follow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Me and my best friend Emilee are from the same city. San Antonio Tx. My best friend is a really athletic person and I am not….we’re totally opposite from each other in that area. But if I were to show her a good time I’d just do all the crazy things she likes to do, she loves outdoors, lakes, rivers..anything that makes me cringe to say the least 😆 but with her everything is always fun so I’d be delighted to do it anyway. In my view some of the exciting places for me is to be at the beach and read a book, drink or dance! I love historical places and museums.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The support of my TRUE friends, immediate family and LOYAL followers never go unnoticed. It’ll wouldn’t be right if I named one person because I have a whole team behind me!!
