We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayanna Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ayanna, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I have 3 habits that have helped me succeed. All 3 habits have been extremely beneficial to my business. The first habit is making sure I am doing adequate research on a weekly basis to get up to date information to help run my business effectively & efficiently. Doing the proper research has allowed me to find different ways to promote, advertise & find great business tips that helps not only my business but myself grow. The second habit is getting a planner and planning ahead, writing goals, and writing down accomplishments. Since I have been doing this I have found my days to be way more efficient because I know what needs to be done, what is done, and where I stand with my business. The third habit is surrounding myself with like minded individuals who keep me grounded & give me the strength to keep pursuing what I have envisioned.
What should our readers know about your business?
Chef AJ offers Personal Chef & Catering Services. Within the last 9 months we have ventured to an online spice blend business called ShopChefAJ.com – All things Organic & Vegan Spice Blends. What sets us apart from others is our most popular item Organic Salt Free Spice, made with all organic ingredients, no other additives, non gmo, vegan, & most importantly SALT-FREE. We are so proud to say these spices are all sourced locally from African American Businesses. We are also proud of the exposure that Chef AJ has gained within the last 3 years of being in business. We are most excited about the upcoming new spice blends that are being released soon, our spice blends being sold in stores around the US, & being able to do pop – up shops selling spices in Dallas and other locations starting in April. A lot of hard work & determination, of course is the reason I am here today but learning the process and seeing the vision is really the key. Processes are never easy! One of the ways I overcame those challenges, is by having a great support system. Which I believe is the most important part. Also doing research & planning played a huge part. In any field you must be able to adapt and apply what you have learned. I want the world to know that Chef AJ believes in good customer service, high quality products, and highlighting the upbringing of young black owned businesses & communities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place we visit is Grow DeSoto Market Place! This is a facility that is catered for small start ups & businesses. Deep Ellum for a serious of local events & serious pizza! Happy Hour for drinks & small bites Fuel City for tacos Val’ Cheesecake for dessert Uptown for some night time fun To meet fun & exciting people go check out Klyde Warren park. Andretti Indoor Karting for hangout and fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Special Shout outs to my family, My Parents who have helped me on my creative journey through pics, videos, and designs. My 2 sisters who have helped pick me up through tough times with kind words and support. & Most importantly to all my friends and supporters who will always continue to hold Chef AJ down!
