We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Rae Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela Rae, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being able to create an artistic outlet through hair and makeup is a way for me to express my gifts and creativity. It brings me so much joy when I am a creator of some thing so unique and special for a particular person or event. My passion is to create and that is why I chose a career where my artistic skills are put to great use.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a love for taking risks when it comes to creating. I am most proud and excited about the upcoming events that I want to launch. Some behind the scene projects have taken a while, but I know they will be worth it in the end. Taking risks and putting myself out there is a way I feel I have overcome fear. Fear as to what people say or think about me or what I do. IT WAS NOT EASY, and still isn’t at times. Fear is a liar, it steals the joy from doing what you love and are passionate about. So, I have learned that when self doubt stirs up, do your research, stand firm in confidence, and just do it. Take the risk. I believe that we each have a gift. That gift is meant to serve others in a way that makes a change in their lives. My heart and passion is to serve women through hair and makeup and educate them to learn and know about their inner beauty while enhancing their outer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
DALLAS IS SO AWESOME! It has every type of atmosphere you can want if you ask me. I haven’t visited all the new hot spots, but here are some I love. First things first, COFFEE! I would find a local coffee spot in the surrounding area. I would definitely find a great BBQ spot. Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum is a must! Not feeling BBQ? Cane Rosso is an amazing PIZZA spot and the dessert pizza is so delicious. Then I would head over to Klyde Warren park, rent some scooter, swoop up an ice cream and eat it on the lawn. Dinner places are endless, but I think a good authentic Mexican Food restaurant sounds about right. The Rustic’s food, bar, and atmosphere is probably where I would end the night. There are tons of shopping options around the metroplex, so I think that what we would do most. Depending on the time of the year, Dallas is all about supporting our local sports. I would definitely highlight that as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
YES! My good friend and mentor Anastasia Strattan. She has been such an encouragement to me and has supported my efforts in all areas since day one. Not only is she a talented stylist, her heart for people and highlighting their beauty is amazing.
