We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Schelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what do you attribute your success to?
The quilt patterns I design are very modern and minimalist. I also design my quilt patterns in solid fabrics so that the quilt pattern itself is the pattern you see instead of having the distraction of busy, floral fabrics like you might typically see. I believe this makes my quilt patterns unique and my hope is that they attract younger quilters to join the quilting world so that this is an industry that will continue to grow and change with new inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I design my patterns with minimal color which sets me apart from other quilters who typically use lots of bold busy prints. I want the quilt pattern itself to stand out as the pattern you see on the completed throw blanket. Typically quilt patterns are designed to include tons of different fabrics, but I wanted to take a different approach so that the finished products looked great in my own home. This felt like a huge risk because I was so worried people would only want the same old quilt patterns they typically see, but the response has been wonderful! It’s encouraged me to design two full pattern series that are all inspired by different aspects of interior design – which is my original background.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to be outdoors so we would start the day at the Clearfork Famers Market, grab some coffee and then maybe even some brunch at Press Cafe or go for a walk on the trails. In a perfect world we would follow this up with a mani/pedi at Milk + Honey and then just relax the rest of the day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband! He has always been the one to push me out of my comfort zone and encourage me to continue moving forward in my business even when I want to give up.
