We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to cultivate a business where I could reach individuals who look like me and give them a place of safety to heal. I am big on being mentally fit as well as physically fit. I know from a personal standpoint how movement has a positive impact on your mental and how they directly impact each other. So, before I started my business, I looked for complementary ways to merge the mental health with the physical health for optimal healing. I wanted to be sure to address the “whole” self-using gentle movement, sound, music, mindfulness and most importantly rest to reset the nervous system dealing with trauma. Through this lens, this is where I founded Realign and Unwind Therapy and Wellness PLLC. A place where you can kick off your shoes, relax, recalibrate and increase your vibration.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ReAlign and Unwind Therapy and Wellness was designed to provide a safe, calming, non-judgmental space for individuals to heal by pairing talk therapy with body-based treatment for optimal healing. I am a trauma therapist and I feel that talk therapy is not enough because trauma is not just stored in the brain, it’s within the whole body. I

Another component of ReAlign and Unwind Therapy and Wellness is education and offering accessibility to those who would not be able to access complementary healing modalities due to a number of factors. Education is key and we are empowered by knowledge. In order for us to break the stigma in our communities, we have to be willing to spread the word and team up with others to reach people we would have never reach. Accessibility is finding ways working in the community and with others to offer low cost or donation-based classes to not only give them access but build a community. Through these approaches, more people can have access to healing.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my passion to helps others in non-traditional ways and to do it afraid. I know right. I too as a professional still get scared when it comes to implementing new things because I feel that some services get entangle and group with others. What I mean by this is that I am a License Clinical Social Worker Supervisor that not only provides therapy but yoga, sound therapy, somatic healing, and mindfulness which could be grouped as normal westernized practices. But these practices I offer as a clinician is designed to treat trauma and mental illness that are an extension of trauma. Been able to adopt these practices and explore further and having the skillset of both a clinician and body-based worker is exceptional. So, it might look like I am doing the same things as others in the community but everything in clinical practice looks, feel and offer you something different.

I am here today not by chance but because of my passion which is rooted in my purpose to serve others.

No, it is not easy and me being fairly new, I am still learning. Through learning, you will have some setbacks, some disappointments, frustration, etcetera and that it okay. Nothing you want will come easy. So, use those setbacks to continue to motivate you.

Lessons learned, do not try to do everything at once. It’s a marathon and it better to take your time, than to drive yourself to an early grave.

My brand is still developing and it’s a process. However, my brand is rooted in service. It aims to serve to help others overcome and get to their authetic selves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I would take her to a spa, then we might go to a winery because she likes wine. I will be there for the cheese. LOL. I might go to a place where we can eat and listen to live music. I am new to DFW, so I would have to get some suggestions as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to admit that there is not only one person to recognized during this time because over the years, I believe experiences I have encountered as an African American woman has shaped me for the good when it comes to the work I do. They say, “Experience is the best teacher.” Along, this journey of life, I have faced a lot of adversity and has been a witness to some unfortunate situations. As a person of color (POC) and a woman, I know the struggles we are faced with on a daily basis. So, I believe this is why it was imperative for me to cultivate a space that is design to allow POC to be seen, heard and validated.
