We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma-Rocio Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alma-Rocio, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always struggled with traditional work roles. It always felt stifling and I would feel that I had outgrown the role pretty quickly. After an incident that occurred with my last role in corporate upon my return from bereavement from the loss of my second mom, I felt lost. I did not see how I could continue in that world. I spoke with my best friend, Ileana, and we were feeling the exact same way. The realization hit us that life was too short to continue to be unhappy and undervalued. We both took the leap together and realized at the end of the day we were going to set the terms for the services we provided to any business, person, or corporation,
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a few different roles. I am a real estate agent with La Flor Real Estate Group powered by HomeSource Realty. I am also operations manager for two different companies including my brokerage. I do administrative work for a staffing agency and some social media work for an Airbnb. I set myself apart from others by always being a safe space for others to have constructive discussions or find answers to questions they might be too shy to ask anyone else. Prior to my current businesses, I worked in medical records, birth registry, front desk at a hotel, janitorial services, insurance adjusting, and teaching. Each of those roles only made me better for my current roles. With every position, I learned what environment works best for me and how to really meet people where they are so that their needs are being met. My brand is all about blooming into the next stage of your life or career. I want to help people reach their goals at their pace and within their level of comfort.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, I love this question. I would take them to Klyde Warren Park for a nice day out, followed by dinner at Gloria’s or BBQ from Smokey Joe’s or Clark’s Outpost. One can never really go wrong with BBQ or Latinx cuisine. Dallas has an amazing amount of food spots so there is always plenty to choose from. If they are into sports, I would take them to the Star or museums, then definitely the Perot. The last three places I always take people to are not in the city but have always been a hit for visits are Winstar Casino, Arbuckle Wilderness Park, and Turner Falls.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My motto in life is and will always be to invest time into finding and nurturing a good village. Family is not always biological and when you have the right chosen family behind you, the world can be conquered. With that said, thank you for allowing me this moment to thank the people who deserve all of the credit for my success. Thank you to my parents, Alma and Mario, who have always been in my corner. I have moved between many different industries and changed my path multiple times. They have always joined me on my adventures and will tell anyone who will listen about me. Thank you to my husband, Rey, and my best friend, Ileana. My two life partners. Without them, I would not have had the courage or faith to bet on myself. My sisters, Rosa, Michelle, and Alyzza, for always reminding me that I can do anything I put my mind to and root for me so loudly and full of pride. My 6 nieces and nephews (plus my great-niece who is on the way) that I do all of this for and are my entire heart. They remind me that someone is always watching and to lead by example. To everyone else, you mean just as much and I could go on all day long but I won’t. I still want you to know who you are so thank you to my best friends Leona, Mohair, Jordan, Delissa, and Donna. Special shoutout to Donna for encouraging me to follow suit. Thank you to my grandparents, Jesus and Maria, Tia Martha, Tio Jorge, Tio Beto. my primita Ileana Sophia. My brother in laws for being supportive and truly family. Lastly, my venture into real estate would not be complete without thanking Carmen Robinson and Terence Robinson. My broker and supervising agent have pushed me to go further and became family along the way. Thank you to the both of you for the love, support, opportunity, and freedom to grow. I am forever indebted to you both for seeing my potential and pushing me to capitalize on it. There is so many of more people to thank but this is getting long. To everyone else, please know that I see you and truly appreciate you. You are my village and my community too and I love you as well. One final shoutout to my second mom, Ms. Maria. This world hasn’t been the same since you transitioned and I hope you know that I still carry your endless love and support with me. I miss hearing your voice but I hope you can still hear mine, light of my life. Thank you for everything. I love you.
