We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, how do you think about risk?
When most people think of risks, fear and failure creeps into their minds. And it’s normal to have those reactions when you think about taking a risk but what is for you will always be for you. I think of Jeremiah 29:11 (For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.)
Before I started my bakery business, it was between continuing nursing school or start this business. Job security did sound real good but after praying about it I knew that’s not where God wanted me to make my impact.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Sweet Life Brand isn’t just a bakery business, it’s an experience. When I first started my business I didn’t know where exactly I was going with this idea, it started with cookies and now it’s mostly custom cakes that I do. I am excited to expand The Sweet Life Brand to a One Stop Shop. I want people to be able to get not only their desserts from me but also have me plan their whole event from the catering, decoration, and etc. As well as adding merch with my custom logo and quotes on shirts, hoodies, cups, etc. I want this business to go beyond a home bakery. There are a lot of new and exciting things that are happening behind the scenes and I can’t wait to share it with the DFW area. Starting AND maintaining a business is not an easy task, it takes a lot of patience and creativity to keep things going. Like any business there comes challenges, for me personally it was TIME. When I first started I did use to rush on my orders and I would notice things I could have done better if I would have slowed down. Now I spend all the time in the world perfecting my craft, even if it means starting over multiple times. I don’t like nobody playing around with my money so I’m not going to play around with nobody else’s money, I’m going to make sure they get what they paid for and more.
The Sweet Life Brand is built on the scripture, Luke: 16:10-13, you cannot serve money and God. I didn’t start this business with money as my motivation, it’s always been about sharing what I love with others. And I want to continue to spread that love with as many people that I can

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in DFW area and I love it. I’m a huge foodie and I love me a good drink, one of the first restaurants we would have to hit up is Beto & Son at Trinity Grove. They have some BOMB enchiladas and this margarita with boba and it’s something you HAVE to try. Of course we will have to spend a day in GP, in the EPIC area, just because it’s always super chill in the area and many restaurants to choose from, one of my favorite pizza places is Blaze pizza because I can customize it anyway I want. Another stop will have to be Cidercade in Dallas, where I once held the high score at the Spider-Man pinball machine. It’s a great place to get some cider and play arcade games, it’s definitely a vibe.
The last must go to place will be Sundance Square in Ft. Worth, my all time favorite restaurant, Mi Cocina, is in the area and they have amazing food and margaritas. There’s plenty of restaurants and small stores to shop in. It’s definitely my favorite place to go to during Christmas time, plus it holds a special place in my heart because that is were my husband asked me to be his girlfriend and his wife.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Lincoln. When I first ran the idea by him of me possibly turning my hobby into a business, there was no hesitation and he was on board immediately. These last 3 years he has been my sounding board, biggest supporter, and my voice of reason when it comes to expanding The Sweet Life Brand. He has a way of making sure my brand not only stays true to who I am but also leaves a lasting taste and memory in people minds. He has been the most loving husband and father that anyone could ask for and I’m just so lucky. I’m also so grateful for all my friends and family who were my first customers and still support me in all I do in my business. I’m so grateful to God for putting the right people in my life to give me the encouragement and the love that I need to grow my business onto a larger scale.
