We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Serrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I realized I wanted to start my own business while I was in College. I got tired of working for others and training clients at different gyms all over DFW. Opening up my own personal training business after I graduated college was the best route for me because I could use my degree in Kinesiology to help lead others on their fitness journey, all while building my life and business the way I wanted to without having to answer to anyone. Once I managed to grow my personal training business to a decent size, I realized I could expand and grow a bit more if I added an apparel line and started putting out daily educational content across all social media platforms so one thing just led to the other.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
IAM1ONE Training LLC was really built off of COVID-19. Prior to being in quarantine, I didn’t have many clients so I was still working at my college job full time about 35-40 hours a week while training clients for my business another 20-30 hours a week. Once everything shut down and Texas went into quarantine, I got laid off my full time job so I had no choice but to completely open my schedule to train clients. Once I did this, I started getting inquiries left and right and word of mouth helped me gain more clients. I also started posting more content on social media and this helped bring more attention to my services. And yes, I did train some clients while in quarantine. Sometimes as a business owner you get backed into a wall and you have to find a way to make stuff happen. I had to risk my business during this time and thankfully it all worked out for the better.

As we have grown over the last few years, I began to realize the amount of misinformation that is out there in the fitness community. Not everyone wants to be a professional bodybuilder that eats plain chicken and broccoli 6 times a day and works out twice a day and it’s our goal to educate people so that they can learn how to look good and feel good without doing all this like a bodybuilder. IAM1ONE Training LLC aims to teach the average joe how to properly use exercise and nutrition to accomplish their goals fitness wise.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everyone from the DFW Metroplex knows about Pluckers! The go to spot for wings and I mean, who doesn’t like wings? Other good restaurants in Arlington that would be visited include Hurtados BBQ and Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in downtown. AT&T Stadium and Choctaw Stadium would also be toured, along with grabbing some drinks at Texas Live!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person that’s supported me from day 1 is my mom. She’s the one who gave up her parking spot in the garage to let me train clients. As business picked up over the last few years and I’ve gotten busier, she’s been there listening to my problems and even helping me with meal prep and other things when I don’t have time to do it myself. She’s done more for me than I can thank her for and she’s definitely taken some weight off my back.

I would also like to send a shoutout to Tim Grover, Andy Frisella and Rob Bailey. I’ve read Tim Grover’s book “Winning” like 10 times now. This book helped me realize that I’m not crazy, it’s perfectly normal to be obsessed with being the best at your craft. Andy Frisella and Rob Bailey’s podcasts have not only motivated me but given me a different insight into the mindset aspect of being an entrepreneur. Both of these guys have helped shape me for the better.
