Meet Alexa Huddleston | Mama & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Huddleston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business out of a need to express my creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. I was six months into another business endeavor that was always meant to be temporary when I started planning for my current business. I was pregnant with my first baby and in grad school, and I knew I wanted to be able to stay home with him and soak up all the lovely newborn bliss, but I also had responsibilities to school and to working in some aspect. I wanted to be able to support my family, and I wanted to be able to follow my dreams. So many times, when you’re a young mom, you’re told how much you’ll lose out on once you have a baby. To me, that just wasn’t true. I knew that I could have my baby AND follow my dreams. It makes my heart swell with pride that my little boy will grow up knowing that women are strong because he’ll grow up seeing me live that out.
What should our readers know about your business?
Within my business, the impact that I make is super important. I believe in only sourcing products from other small businesses, to be able to support and impact people directly. I am super conscious of how our products impact the planet and our bodies, so I only sell non-toxic, ethically made, and produced products that I believe in and stand behind. I also donate a portion of each sale to several different non-profits who work with and fight for children’s rights and safety. I have recently started hand-making some of my products as well. I source my material from thrift stores so it’s as ethical and sustainable as possible. Running your own business, especially with so many standards and rules for yourself, is not always the easiest, but it is so worth it because I fully stand behind what I do and I feel confidant that I am making a difference.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like to have fun haha so this will be an adventurous day! First I would take them to my favorite local coffee shop, Summermoon. All the baristas there know me and my family and they have become sweet friends to us, and I love getting to see them multiple times a week. I would recommend to my friend a 007 which is my favorite drink on the menu. I’m obsessed with coffee and have tried literally every coffee shop within an hour of me, so we’d probably go to many different shops throughout the week, specifically Ampersand and Merit Coffee. My passion in my free time is thrifting and rock climbing. So at some point we would go to the climbing gym and I would show my friend the ropes (literally lol) and we’d visit several thrift stores. I have a major board game collection so we’d probably play some games at my apartment or visit Game Theory to try out a new game and have a fun drink. My must-eat places around here would be Hawaiian Bros, Salsa Limon, and The Bangkok.
