We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Nicotra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There are so many factors that have collectively propelled me forward in my career, but if I were to label the most important component it would be focusing on making my product and service better today than it was yesterday. I have spent a relentless amount of hours of studying my craft to ensure the final product my clients receive cannot be matched by my competition. Additionally, the art must be complimented by the service. A client will often times remember how doing business with you made them feel more so than the fine details of the product. The lasting impression of doing business together is something I consistently aim to excel in. Furthermore, I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with people who challenge me to constantly improve both my art and service experience. My team is focused on raising the bar in their craft, leadership, and is passionate about reaching the next level. I think being successful is similar to getting in shape. Everyone knows you need to workout and diet, yet everyone wants to find an alternative fast route. Over time sticking to the basics of providing an incredible product you believe in, with a team you can rely on, and a pleasant customer service experience will yield lasting results. You simply have to be willing to put in the work and be ready for the time it takes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a videographer there are so many different moving parts involved with creating the final product. The most exciting part for me is perfecting a scene! I love “the dance” with lighting to get the perfect amount of cinematic shadows on my subject and background, shifting a scene and constructing a world for the character to live in, and pulling exactly what I want to see out of my talent. As a filmmaker you get the opportunity to create a world that someone else gets to step in to. So, with all of that power you want to make sure it’s as interesting as possible!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
One of my favorite places in Dallas is White Rock Lake! This is a go to for me to get outdoors and get a way from downtown. I often go here once every other week and either set up a hammock, have dinner on the dock, or go kayaking. The sun sets right behind the lake and is a beautiful get-a-way close to the city. If I’m having dinner I’m big on finding somewhere with an outdoor patio. My favorite place is Blue Sushi Sake Grill. If you’re in to sushi it’s by far the best around! I also have a relentless sweet tooth that takes me to Andy’s Frozen Custard far too often!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shane Retizammer above anyone deserves a shoutout from me! He has been an incredible mentor, leader, and friend who’s helped propel my career forward more than anything! I have learned so much about running a business and improving my art under his leadership.
