We had the good fortune of connecting with Christie Hutchinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christie, how do you think about risk?
I’ve always been a risk taker but my biggest risk was in July 2018 when I moved my family across the country to Prosper, Texas as a hairstylist. No clientele. No friends. Just started over and took the risk to bet on myself. I opened my salon suite and now almost two years later I have a successful business. The greater the risk the greater the reward! Being ok with taking calculated risks has never let me down and in fact, made my career more successful. You have to always be willing to change and adapt to any situation. It makes you stronger and wiser.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a curly hair colorist. I paint hair and make women feel beautiful and appreciate their natural textures. There aren’t many hairstylists who truly specialize in curly/natural hair. I belong to groups, forums and am a L’Oréal Mizani Artist which elevate my knowledge on having healthy curly hair and be able to preserve integrity during chemical services. I have a deep love for curly hair and that is what sets me apart. My motto is “everything curls” and I truly believe that no matter the hair, Everything Curls!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being new to Dallas I’m still exploring! But if my bestie were to come we’d hit Deep Ellum and grab some drinks and look at the art work followed by heading to Aunt Irene’s Kitchen for the best seafood in the city. Being a history fan we would go check out the 6th floor museum with some photo ops where JFK was shot and then head over to the Happiest Hour. Sunday brunch we’re going to Tupelo honey at the Star and stroll around Legacy West for some light shopping and people watching. Perfect weekend!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Salon Manager back in Atlanta, Marilyn. She pushed me to be the stylist I am. She took me out of my comfort zone and made gain confidence in my craft and own my talents. I would not be the stylist I am today if it weren’t for her taking me under her wing
