We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirstyn Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kirstyn, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Working 2 jobs and being a full-time college student is draining most days. Trying to maintain a social life on top of everything else I have to do is also very important to me. I aspire to be the best version of myself for myself. My number one goal in everything I do is to build a life for my future children and me. My family grew up struggling, and more recently has been struggling worse with the aftermath of the pandemic. I know my parents try, but I do want my kids to ever have to worry like I have had to. So when asked the question of how to know whether to give up or to keep going, my answer will always be to keep going. Achieving my goals is too important to me to give up when I barely started.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer located in the Lubbock area. I am a self-starter and a newly started business. I love to take photos of virtually anything and anyone. Being able to catch memories and not just photos is a huge part of what makes me different from others. I am most excited to see what the future has in store for me and what more I can learn about taking what is a photo to some a moment in time for others. It is never easy starting something new, it was honestly very scary. I did not think that a lot of people would support my idea and my goals, but luckily I was wrong. I overcame the fear of taking a risk on myself by just doing it because I love it. There is nothing better than seeing how happy someone is when they feel good. I have learned that not everyone will agree with what you do or the way that you will do it, but it does not really matter as long as it makes you happy. I want everyone to know that you deserve to look good, feel good, and have moments in life other than your big days captured, and that is what I love to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is not a lot to do in Lubbock like there is in other places, but there are happy places here. If my best friend were to come to see me I would take them to see the Texas Tech Campus. I am a student there and that is where I spend the majority of my time. I would also love to show them some really neat spots around town like the winery English Newsom Cellars which is so pretty and about an hour north there is Palo Duro canyon which I loved to hike when I went last year. Some of my favorite restaurants here in Lubbock are Bigham’s Smokehouse, which I personally think has the best Barbecue in town and I also love the soda shack here in Lubbock where you can make any soda you want. One of the most exciting things to do in Lubbock is going to the Depot District where they have all the nightclubs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. I truly have no greater supporter in life than her. She has given me the opportunity to have the life that she was not able to have and I cannot thank her enough for believing in me and showing me that I can do anything I set my mind to. Other huge supporters that I have is my grandparents and boyfriend. I can turn to any of them when I feel down or like I need some guidance. Thank you all for believing in me everyday!
