We had the good fortune of connecting with Carson Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When the three of us were reaching the end of our time in college we began to dream about what our lives were going to look like. The more we talked the more we realized that none of us wanted to get 9-5 jobs in our respective majors for the next 40+ years. We once heard the quote “when you find your tribe, you find your destiny” and decided to run with that. We felt like we had a much better chance at changing the world if we were to start our own company as friends than if we all were to go our separate ways. Our main goal is to impact our local community and then eventually nations all throughout the world, and we felt like a coffee company was our best bet at doing so.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are Moravian Coffee, a specialty coffee roastery located in Grand Prairie, TX. We strive to keep the balance of being the highest quality coffee in the DFW area, while also serving a vision that is bigger than coffee. Our coffee is roasted by two engineers who have 12+ years of combined experience with data visualization and application. Right now we are just a coffee roastery, but our goal is to open up our first coffee shop in 2022! We are so excited about turning our dream of a coffee shop into a reality. We want to be a focal point for the community where people can meet, drink good coffee, and enjoy their lives.

So far, the process has not been easy but it has been fulfilling. We opened a month before the pandemic hit in 2020 so we had to weather that storm. Since then we have seen steady growth and we are just trying to steward what we have so that we are ready when we get more. We have only been able to overcome all of our challenges through the grace of God and the counsel of our friends and family.

We want the world to know that our existence is for much more than just coffee. Our long-term vision is to open shops all over the world that double as both coffee shops and a place for missionaries to work at, meet people in, and use in their efforts to reach the people of the country they are in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are still fairly new to the DFW area. We lived in Oklahoma our entire lives up until 2019. I would do a day in Dallas and a day in Ft. Worth. There is a new restaurant in our hometown of Grand Prairie called Chicken N’ Pickle that I would definitely take them to. Then I would probably take them on a coffee crawl through all the shops in the DFW area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out our “tribe” that I referred to in an earlier question. Although there are only three of us who started Moravian Coffee, we moved down here with 4 of our other friends and family. They have been the biggest support system for us throughout the past 2 and a half years. They have provided us with encouragement, vision, and even correction when they feel like we need it. There are two old Proverbs that say “without vision, the people will perish” and “through the council of many your plans will succeed”. Our close-knit group of friends and family are the fulfillment of those two sayings in our lives.
