We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Berry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I’ve made that contributed to my success is making sure my mental health is in good standards at all times. Also, I made sure no matter what challenges that comes my way, I’ve always had a close bond to the higher power. With controlling my mental health and having a bond with God, I know I will be just fine.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an Author of Behind the Badge: 7 Keys for Correction Officers to Reduce Stress and Preserve Mental Health. I am proud of writing a book, because no one else close to me wrote a book. It wasn’t easy, because I always knew I was going to write a book, but I had to shift my mindset first to write the book, I had a lot of self-doubts and fear writing my book, because I didn’t think no one want to read my book. I’ve learned that whatever I put my mind to I can achieve. I want the world to know that I’m a mental health advocate and I want to bring awareness to Mental Health.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would eat at Stirr Dallas, I would drink at Pluckers, I would go to the Sweet Tooth Hotel to take photos. I would go to Deep Ellum to hang out. I also would go to Oak Lawn to have brunch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a lot of mentors in my life. For as being an Author in this industry, my mentor is Jasmine Womack. I also would like to shoutout to my Family and Ahmani Green for always giving me advice when I need it.
