We had the good fortune of connecting with Genevieve Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genevieve, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The power of speaking your truth. OverShare is dedicated to providing quality content about the importance of mental health. Telling your story or speaking your truth is the most important factor that contributes to the success of the podcast. The power of emotional storytelling highlights several mental health issues that our society is dealing with but reluctant to talk about. OverShare focuses on an array of topics such as affirmations, self-talk, boundaries, the power of failure, resilience and many more. At the heart of all my episodes is an individual’s story and the journey they have been on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
OverShare is truly a manifestation of my healing journey. I went through dramatic and traumatic changes in my personal life over the last two years. I had to dig deep and work on my mental health. Throughout the process I realized the power of hearing other people’s stories along the way. Storytelling really became apart of my healing process. This is the main reason I started the podcast. I wanted to provide a safe space for people to be vulnerable and highlight their struggles and successes. Also, I wanted to give my lovely listeners practical ways to improve their lives and level-up on their self-awareness.
Starting the podcast was far from easy. There are so many moving parts behind the scenes i.e. editing, post-production, recruiting guests and promoting the podcast itself. Each of these aspects takes work and consistency. OverShare is truly a labor of love and has given my life purpose. Using this mindset has allowed me to develop more resiliency and has allowed me to overcome the many challenges that have come may way since its inception.
I have learned that there is true power in failure. Each failure or setback has been an opportunity to grow my brand and the podcast. On a personal level, failure has taught me to be more rooted in gratitude and enjoy the present. This is an extremely hard concept for a creator or business owner. As an entrepreneur, I am always thinking about the future and the things on my to-do list. I have learned to consistently work at finding a balance between getting things done and also taking the time to enjoy the process or the journey itself. I continue to tell myself to be patient about the bigger picture and goals and impatient about the things I can get done each day.
I want the world to know that mental health and self-awareness is the key to healing the world. I know that sounds a little hippie-dippy but it really is the truth. This is really the mantra of my own life and my brand. The podcast is dedicated to helping people achieve self-actualization. My brand is centered on unlocking the power of an individual’s self-awareness so that they can take this and harness real change in their lives and, ultimately, in the society that we live in.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them downtown and hit the historical sites like the JFK Museum and the Farmers Market. Greenville Avenue is definitely a must – there are so many good spots to grab food or a drink like Truck Yard or Greenville Avenue Pizza Company.
I would also take my friend to Oak Cliff AKA Bishop Arts. So much art and local shops throughout the neighborhood. My favorite local shopping place in this neighborhood is Urban Owl. Plus, there are great little hole in the wall places to frequent like Whitehall Exchange, Atlas or Veracruz.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would like to thank my mom for her unconditional love, guidance and support. I am truly my mother’s daughter. I also have to give a shoutout to all of the spiritual guides that have helped me along the way namely, Brene Brown. She is such an inspiration and has really brought mental health to the forefront of the worldwide community. Finally, I would like to thank all of the supportive people in my life that have encouraged me and pushed me to follow my dreams.
