We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Avellaneda Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza Avellaneda, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Florals are expensive. I strongly disagree with overpricing clients! You can make a profit and deliver an affordable price point to your clients. The floral world is constantly changing and we are currently being hit with a floral shortage which is causing a ridiculous price inflation but if you are open to a gorgeous dupe over that $26 peony that is not in season you actually open yourself up to a world of new beautiful florals that doesn’t restrict your florist and allows for a more affordable budget.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my humility, I am embracing my journey as a new florist. I like to call myself a seed because I haven’t bloomed yet. I started my journey about a year and half ago I am still learning and growing from other florists, tiktok, youtube, and studying. No one hands you a manual in this industry it’s all self taught, you have to be hungry to learn and improve. I see my past work from last year and see my development it’s very exciting to imagine how my future work will look!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I work full time for a phenomenal non profit so between that and my growing floral business if I am not sleeping I love to explore new restaurants and grab an aesthetically pleasing drink! My mom likes to call me a callejera! I always recommend The Dallas Farmers Market, visit all the Museums Dallas has to offer, catch a game, check out the current pop up’s (Right now Dallas has a lot of Christmas pop up bars) and The Dallas Arboretum. I always recommend breaking down a city by the areas you want to visit. Hudson House has my favorite happy hour you simply can not beat a cabo martini and oysters! As far as night life I always visit my DJ best friend ETX he plays at all the Dallas hot spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is my heart and motivation. They were supportive when Casa de Avella was just a thought! My business is a family business when you see me setting up an event or wedding the marvelous crew with me are my powerful cousins, my dazzling siblings and the man holding the ladder is my astounding boyfriend. Fun fact Avella is short for Avellaneda which is my mothers maiden name and all of the names of my floral sizes/types are female family members.
