Meet Lex Newman | Artist & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lex, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well ultimately because I don’t want to work for anyone, but I’ve always worked hard for other people and now I just want to work hard for MYSELF .. I love Style , and You look how You feel , so I felt like making a brand to where I can create my own line, my own style, and share it with others so they can look and feel good too was an amazing first step to that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think I’m most excited that I am actually doing this! Like I actually own a business, and this isn’t just a for now thing. I plan on creating a legacy, and something that people will remember and have for generations to wear. I am super proud of my consistency and willingness to accept hardships that come with this, so that I can be successful in this industry. Hard work and dedication got me here, along with the support of a few people close to me. It was never easy, because I just jumped into this not knowing what was in store for me, but I knew two things, I had the DRIVE and the HUNGER necessary to overcome and prevail. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is be persistent for yourself and success first always, because no one will go hard for you like you will go hard for yourself! I promote self love, focusing on yourself and what you need, progression in life, and getting to that bag! Because these are literally the things I had to learn to build my brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly I love to eat, so I would suggest Dave’s Hot Chicken in Plano, or Fuel City Tacos. I also Love Texas Roadhouse so those would all be suggestions. I would also say for someone visiting, historic downtown, deep ellum, Margaret McDermott/ Margaret Hill Bridges, and the zoo. Punch Bowl Social in Deep Ellum is a MUST visit too. There’s endless malls, go-karting, bars, places to eat, and fun people to meet.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom, Evelyn Layne, definitely deserves credit , she started her own non profit organization, “ Layne’s Den “ and she owns several businesses that she started alone from the ground up. Watching her build, network, work hard, it gave me the drive I needed to finally step out on faith and start my own business.
