We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Contrary to what most people think and believe, success is achieved through the losses rather than the wins. Throughout my entrepreneurship development there were many trials and errors, setbacks, and sacrifices that impacted my business development which also had its impact on me. However, this is the place in which I learned and grew my business. This place is called failing. Failing is NOT the same as being a failure. So, please do not confuse the two concepts. Making business decisions that did not always workout caused me to revisit my vision and plan continuously to assess how to improve it and make better decisions moving forward based on what I had learned. This meant I had to be adaptable, flexible, and willing to make changes to my business vision, and even my product, to allow innovative thinking to guide my decisions and movements forward. Failing has led to much of my instinctively creative success. Don’t get me wrong, I needed a few wins here and there to keep me motivated, confident, and reassured that I was moving in the right direction. But, when it comes to wins in business, it only takes one key win that brings all the losses together for a purpose.

The other element behind my success was learning to keep my business true to who I am and what I wanted it to be. There is a fine line between maintaining your authenticity and applying feedback from others. You have to know when change is needed, when advice should be taken, who to take advice from, and when to maintain your authenticity. Many people in business and entrepreneurship follow the same rubric from books, the internet, motivation speakers, business and life coaches, and social and business networks to try to achieve success. But, what I realized is just because something works for someone else does not mean it will work for everyone. I had to find a unique formula that allowed me to navigate my business to success that included me having enough open-mindedness and selectiveness about feedback and advice from certain people and still maintain my authenticity in how I do business and my brand, TTE SportsMINDed Coded Language.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
TTE SportsMINDed Coded Language specializes in bluetooth brain training (neurofeedback) for athletes of all ages, sports, and levels. When athletes struggle with stress, anxiety, focus, impulsivity, or emotional difficulties it interferes with their athletic performance during training and competitions, their academic performance in the classroom, as well as their decision making and behavior off the field or court. Our virtual Mind-Behavior Alignment (MBA) Program is designed using our at-home SportsWAVE neurofeedback technology to strengthen and build new brainwave connections to improve mental wellness and performance. Our program allows us, as well as the athlete, to see, measure, and analyze their brainwave activity in real time. Inclusive with information about the athlete’s environmental and relational factors we can determine the cause of his or her problems with athletic performance or behavior. Based on the individual’s results, we code an interactive virtual MBA training program for the athlete to engage with using our SportsWAVE neurofeedback technology integrated with their cell phone or tablet.

Our MBA Program has been trusted by ESPN, NASA, IBM, Harvard University, Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of Toronto. Athletes of our MBA Program have significantly enhanced their game and their lives outside of sports with results of eliminated anxiety, increased awareness, lowered and channeled stress, increased resilience, improved focus and attention, emotional control, and improved confidence.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Achieving success means taking a lot of losses along the way. It is those challenges that become the most pivotal moments of resilience to getting to success. But, defeating those challenging moments require genuine and selfless support, encouragement, love, and resources from special people. I want to recognize and thank the following special people that have been, and continue to be, essential to my ongoing success: Carvis Taylor (dad), Linda Taylor (mom), Tarviya Royal (friend), and Tijuana West (friend). Each of these people have contributed to me in ways that are priceless.
