We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Mayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedy, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important thing my career has taught me is to stay consistent with my work and to keep going regardless of what anyone thinks. If anything I am everything and more and people are going to talk at the end of the day regardless.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a model, entrepreneur, Influencer, and brand ambassador for over 6 companies that are involved with either the beauty industry and or the retail market. What sets me apart from others is my ability to always be consistent with my platform as far as posting and Also be able to involve myself in so many different business ventures. Nowadays it seems a lot of models and influencers typically tend to stick with just one specific career plan while I choose to always venture out into different business opportunities. Something I am most proud of is my ability to actually help a lot of girls and women younger and older than me love being in their skin. The ability to help boost someone’s confidence has always been one of my main goals in life especially when they are surrounded around negativity. Growing up in America as a young black woman is one thing but being dark skin is another. It truly makes my day when I am able to help another young or older woman feel comfortable in their skin when the world tends to talk down on us darker women. Another thing that I’m not only proud of but also excited about is being able to be featured in more than 2 magazines with one being featured in Paris France. Since I was a little girl I knew I was capable of accomplishing anything I set my mind to and that just so happened to be one thing that I’ve always wanted. I was able to get where I am today with the support of my family, friends, and fabulous followers who have supported me from the jump as well as showing love to my twin sister Kendall Mayes and I appearance on social media. Getting where I am today was not easy at all. Throughout this whole process, I’ve always remained thankful and humble through good and bad times. Some days were tough for me since I have suffered from depression but I’ve overcome so many difficult challenges through having strong Prayer and faith throughout any situation. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is To always move in silence and that not everyone deserves my time and energy. Sometimes you just gotta keep things moving. Something I want the world to know about me is that I’m just getting started and to expect a lot more from Ms.Mayes in the wonderful years we have to come. I plan to grow my platform and venturing out into bigger and better business opportunities. I’m only going up from here.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was to come to visit me I would most definitely first take them to some local popular food spots around town that we both probably haven’t tried yet. I’m always about the experience and I enjoy having a great time and trying out different spots since going to what’s most common can be boring. After a great meal, I typically love to shop until I drop whether it’s at my favorite mall which is the north park or grapevine and or at some local or popular thrift shops. Being that I’m always down for an adventure I would probably book a flight to either Jamaica, New York, or Los Angeles and just explore popular parts of the city. Going to popular brunch spots would also be exciting for me since I love networking and meeting new people. I’m not exactly of age to drink alcoholic beverages yet but I’m always down for a nice cold daiquiri or glass of sprite, lemonade, or water with fresh lemons. I find joy in visiting local art galleries since I’m always down for a quick photoshoot wherever and I love being around people who are always down for a good time especially when they are all about the positivity in life rather than dwelling on the negative.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first say a big shout out to God and my FABULOUS mother Tiffany Gilbert. I am nothing without them. My always been rock and BIGGEST FAN. I am thankful for my two beautiful aunties Charletta and Latondra for always motivating me to be a better me and for all the great life lessons as well as my grandmother Manama. I also would like to thank Michyra Mallard, Kennedy Onic, Jayvon Young and Tyler Sutton for always being there for me and supporting me through whatever! They are truly the definition of real friends and I’m extremely thankful for their support of my career from the beginning to now and later on in the life of Ms.Mayes. Last but not least I would like to thank my two angels, Charlotte Mayes and Johnnie Mayes. Although my grandparents aren’t here with me physically, they have always been my guardian angels and have helped guide me towards so many wonderful blessings and watched over me during tough times and I’m beyond thankful for them.
