We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, what makes you most proud of the business you’ve built?
I’ve spent 10 years building my business and have done some insanely cool events, creative lighting installs and have many unique accomplishments that I am very proud of. However, when I see a 5-star review from a client it makes me EXTREMELY PROUD! Every time I get that email notification saying I’ve received a review I turn into a kid on Christmas morning. Excitement fills my body; my eyes light up and I just can’t wait to see what that client has said. I only get one shot to make or break an event so add that pressure into it and it makes the final review that much sweeter! Knowing that I have satisfied my clients, usually great friends after a couple meetings, makes all the long hours, planning and hard work completely worth it! When you go to read my reviews after this, I hope you see how dedicated I am to my work, how much I love my job and how proud I am of every single one of those 200+ reviews!

Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
My business is different from others because I source my beats from local farms straight to your dance floors! Ok, maybe that’s not entirely true but my personality does set me apart from many others. I am very professional when I need to be but also know how much fun I can have with my clients and their parties. I’ve created a fun planning process which starts at the very beginning because after all, we are planning a PARTY! My family and friends, personality, attention to detail and unique planning process have gotten me to where I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful! I look forward to getting to know you and your event, hope to hear from you soon!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can’t do a bunch of stuff on an empty stomach so we’d start out at Katy Trail Ice House for some Summer Beers and food. From there we would head up to McKinney Avenue hitting Kung Fu along the way for some free entertainment. Walking down McKinney there are plenty of bars to stop in at and have a drink. For dinner we’d definitely go to Mi Cocina and sit outside. At some point I’d make sure they experienced, Reunion Tower, Klyde Warren Park, Mutts Cantina, E-Bar Tex Mex, American Airlines Center, the uptown bars, Deep Ellum bars, and all the outdoor patios which are the best! There’s so many things to do in Dallas and there are so many types of people that you could do something different every day for an entire year! Dallas is simply the best!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to start out by apologizing to the people I’m about to list out. You know that annoyance that overcomes a household when parents buy a drum set for their son or daughter? Well, I was the DJ equivalent of that when I was learning to mix music. Two years at my parents’ house and 4 years in the fraternity house was a lot of terrible, offbeat mixing. Thankfully, my parents and friends still supported me and not one of them ever sued for any hearing loss. Their support came in many forms but always kept me motivated and driven to be the best DJ I could be. I am so thankful to still have them as supporters 10 years later and without them I would be nothing. I preach all the time to remember how you got started and they are always the ones I think of. Thank you all so much to my Mom, Dad and all my friends for all the support, encouragement and love over the years!!!
