Meet Taylor Sackson | Singer Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Sackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’ve floated around the US honestly my entire life, which I love and is probably the root of my need for touring and seeing the world. I was born in Hancock, MI which is a tiny town as north in the country as you can get. My family uprooted from there to Minneapolis MN, where my love of music totally began. My dad took me to “Concerts in the Park” every weekend where everyone gathered to see any genre you can fathom. I couldn’t be taken away from the front of the stage- one Leonard Skynard’s guitarist held me at said concert, when I ran away from my dad to get up front and on stage at the age of two. I was attention seeking from day one I suppose! I brought my love of music to Arizona with me, where I learned to be in a band and write my own songs. I met so many friends that I still collaborate with today. Currently, I’m all on my own in Los Angeles, CA.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My road to music has always been a struggle. It’s competitive and uncertain which terrifies me. I’ve played shows to two people and I’ve played shows to 60,000. I’ve learned to realize that music and performing are the root of who I am. It’s not just a thing I prefer to do in my full time, it’s how I function. I know rejection more than the next guy. Whether it’s on a large scale like American Idol, or smaller like not knowing where my next performance will ever be – I have learned to keep pushing. I don’t have this amazing budget to make content from home, but I’m trying. We all are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Fransisco is easily one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. If you drive north and take the Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll find yourself in the Muir Woods, the most humbling place on earth. The tallest trees on the planet certainly make you feel like the smallest most pathetic speck- which is often a great reminder for me. I’m on this massive floating rock we call a planet, and I can do whatever I want while here. The music in SF buzzes the streets and makes me feel like everyone is awake and doing what they want right now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The men from Cape May – a band we created and were so hopeful for, Joseph Sardella, Jake Gillespie, & Logan Dubek. My family for never missing a show, and every friend in PHX that navigated my self worth.
