We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Williamson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
There have been so many important decisions along the way but if I am to generalize them all, I will say the decision to “keep going” has been the most important one. There is so much more I aim to accomplish but for the little success I’ve had its, keep going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Sports Performance Coach. A Sports Performance Coach educates youth athletes on the importance of health and wellness, develop them in safe environments, and effectively prepares them for the demands of their sports and life beyond the game. Bigger than what sets me a part from others, it’s the coaches I want to be considered a part of who helped move this industry forward. I am most excited about the possibility of progression. I am not even the best version of myself yet, and I may never be, but I am excited everyday to try my best to move closer toward that person. The same goes for my athletes and their progress. Getting to where I am professionally by no means was easy and I would not wish it on anybody. It is kind of that parent role, to have made it through certain battles you want to do what you can to make the path a little smoother for the generation after but also understanding that it is important to face adversity. I have my parents to thank for how I accept challenges. We always figured it out. I have learned so much along the way and of it all the most important lesson was to keep learning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it is my best friend, then they could only be coming to visit me out of love or to get a break from their busy lives, haha because they know I am not in the streets. I am the friend that my friends tell to go out more. But, we would definitely eat. I am a big breakfast guy. First Watch and Bread Winners are my go to’s. Aside from that, they better have an itinerary on their own.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you all for this. This will undoubtedly be the part I enjoy the most. I have so many people to thank for the person I am, the man I am, and the coach I am. I want to begin by thanking my parents. I have so many quality characteristics that I gained from them. Thank you to my city, the city of Chicago. I have lived in a lot of cities and I would not be me if it did not start in Chicago. I want to thank the friendships and families I have picked up along the way. People that owed me nothing who extended their love and support and opened up their homes to me. I want to thank the game of football for providing me the motive to fight for what the best version of myself is and can be. To the many sports coaches who showed me who I did and did not want to be as a coach and the ones who are still a huge part of my life, thank you. To Coach Dooley going to bat for me and Coach Swinney giving me a chance, thank you. To the strength & conditioning coaches who have poured into me and whom I still have access to, thank you. To the coaches and parents that trust me to develop their teams and children, thank you. To my athletes, that push me everyday to be a better coach, thank you.
