Meet LaShawna Hayes- Martin | Jewelry Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaShawna Hayes- Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaShawna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When you are a person who deals with anxiety taking any risk can be very frightening. I was always overthinking each step that I had to take before I made the decision to start my jewelry business. All of the “what ifs” played over and over in my head. I will honestly say that losing my job due to Covid gave me the push and time to take the leap! I call it a leap because jumping over those hurdles felt really good! I am now in my comfort zone making jewelry pieces and empowering other women like me. It is the greatest feeling. Making jewelry calms my anxiety and makes me happy to know my DAINTY CO. ladies are feeling like the 10 that they are!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
DAINTY CO. was started with the thought of classy unique pieces that are beautiful , of good quality but also affordable. I make sure to get majority of my materials from other small businesses. I make sure that I search and I mean really search for unique materials and shapes. I really take pride in that because there are many jewelry lines and I want people to know my work when they see it and it’s even better when my customers are able to find their style in the pieces I make. Taking the time to learn as I go is a key lesson I had to learn. I was always in a hurry to get product out but it’s way more than just the product to me. I am my brand and I want my customers to know that personal connection and showing my true self is of high importance. I try to show that in many ways through my business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am such a introvert. Hmm I would say that some of my favorite spots to eat is Drunch Eatery, The Loving Hut (vegan) is really good.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. He was the person in my ear telling me that I should and that I could. When a person that really knows you and all your short comings and still sees the “BIG’ in you that means everything. Love you Mr. Martin!
