Meet Jennifer Horowitz | Owner of Thistle Hill Estate & Instagram Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Horowitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the success of Thistle Hill Estate is based on authenticity. We hear from guests that they love that we’re a real farm estate and have preserved the history of its past in an intentional way. The history of our property is what drew us to it in the first place. Preserving that amazing history has become our passion. Now our guests have become a part of its’ history, and that couldn’t make us happier.

What should our readers know about your business?
Thistle Hill Estate is our home in Whitesboro Texas. We moved here 7 years ago from the Southlake area, looking to raise our 2 boys in the countryside. I’m part Hawaiian, and a huge part of my culture is respecting the land and sharing the love and history with others. Four years ago I started documenting on Instagram our life on the estate, as well as building our new home on the property, (that we designed and built ourselves), I thought it would be great to open our estate to the public and share it with others, by opening our guest house on Airbnb. It’s been booked year round for 3 years, and we’ve loved every minute of it! I was discovered by a scout on Instagram and we were featured last year in Country Home Magazine and another Better Homes and Garden’s magazine for our home. During this time we built our family chapel on the property to pay homage to the old Center Church that used to be on our road and perform their baptisms in our creek. We also built what we call Osage Hall for us to entertain guests and have a place for our college age sons to hang out with their friends. When the magazine came out, the inquiries from our Airbnb guests came in requesting weddings and family reunions. We had already considered opening our family chapel to the public for weddings, but then we realized there was a big interest for what some couples have called an “authentic venue”. We realized people are searching for non commercial options where they have more choices and less rules, so their event is as unique as they are. We now have it open for Limited Weddings & Events , and have loved the variety of couples that choose to start their lives together here. We’ve also had the unique pleasure of famous athletes, musicians, models and politicians as guests here. Every guest remarks that they love the exclusivity of their event and that it feels like an extension of their home. Everyone arrives as a guest but leaves feeling like family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love inviting our guests, which are not only from Texas, but also from all over the country, to experience the unique experiences in our area from the wonderful boutique shopping in downtown Whitesboro, where I found a lot of the unique decor for our home, to the variety of dining around our town and the lakes that are all family owned and operated. Our guests also love that nearby are beautiful lakes for fishing and hiking, as well as the Hagerman Nature Preserve to hike around and observe our unique wildlife. Our guests also love that we have several award winning wineries nearby and that we’re only 30 minutes from Winstar Casino & Resort for concerts and fun. We definitely feel lucky to have the countryside views, small town shopping & values, as well as big city entertainment all within a short distance from our property.
