We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara McCutchen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up under a mother who was a cosmetologist as well as an instructor; I have always had the desire to do hair. I have, however, strayed away from it for a handful of years. In that time I thought I was going to become a nurse. I was a medical assistant for about 4 years when I decided that I missed being creative. I missed making things with my hands and using the left side of my brain, if you know what I mean. It wasn’t until about 6 months after I got married that I went to my husband and told him I still wanted to go to cosmetology school. And since that moment, I haven’t looked back.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The name Absolute Strength is kept alive by me in memory of my brother, Chas. He passed away at the age of 19 years old from colon cancer. He created this “brand name” Absolute Strength in hopes to one day create something with it. I have adapted this as my brand name and motto to work by. I am keeping my brothers legacy alive and use it to invite others to inquire about him, his story-as well as mine. I also love using this as an opportunity for my clients to feel comfortable with sharing their stories. I love getting to know my clients- even if it is just for the brief 30 mins I am doing their hair for a wedding. When they sit in my chair, it is most important to me that they feel comfortable, relaxed, and stress-free. Even if just for a moment out of their busy day.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, we would be going to all of the Mexican food places. La Hacienda, mi cocina, blue goose- you name it!! I would also take them to one (or maybe a few) of my kickboxing classes at Total Fitness Kickboxing- where I coach 3-5 classes a week. I also live off of Lake Lewisville, so we would most likely go kayaking. And for night life? We would probably go watch the band my husband is apart of at a local bar, Sherlocks or Sambuca. Sprinkle in a couple days at the pool or little elm beach, and you have a great trip right there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first and foremost I have to say that I wouldn’t have done any of this if not for my brother, Chas. He passed away about 8 years ago from cancer and he is the reason I am who I am today. He has helped me to live my life in the here and now and to do what makes YOU happy. Life is short, that I have learned from his lose and if what you’re doing doesn’t make your heart sing, then change it. I also have to shout out my amazing husband who has been there to support me all along the way of my crazy/wild journey. As well as my parents, aunt and uncle.
