Meet Asper Hegwood | Professional Chocolatier

We had the good fortune of connecting with Asper Hegwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Asper, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’m not sure I believe in work life balance haha! I’m a wife, mom, business owner, and still work full time which means I’m always neglecting something in the place of the other. Before having kids, I was able to throw myself fully into my work, but now that has obviously shifted. I find myself scheduling blocks of time throughout the day to handle what needs to be done. Sometimes that schedule gets completely thrown out the window, but it’s a good baseline to stick with to ensure I can get everything done (or at least try to).
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Fine chocolates have always been a fascination of mine. I did not want to just make chocolate, I wanted to make it with the best ingredients and really expand my skillset to make the fancy chocolates I’ve seen in European chocolate shops. I became a certified Professional Chocolatier and have thrown myself into learning everything I can about chocolate. There are so many subtleties to learn and it is my mission to continue to master this food that the world has come to love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I love chocolate, we’d definitely take a tour of the chocolate shops in the metroplex! We’d spend a day at Klyde Warren Park enjoying the food trucks, visit the Star in Frisco, and find all of the best restaurants in the city! I’m a foodie, so trying new places everyday would be top priority!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends have been my backbone this entire journey. I’d be nowhere without my husband who works long hours right alongside me and puts up with every crazy idea I throw his way. He selflessly sacrifices behind the scenes so that I can pursue this dream and never complains. My parents and my sister also play a large part in my success. They were some of my first customers, employees, and investors when I decided to jump into business. They never doubted me and are constantly pushing me to keep going. Our friends have also pushed us to keep going. They have supported, bought, liked, shared and done everything to help us succeed without us even having to ask.
