Meet Shonda Johnson | Licensed healthy hairstylist for over 34 years

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shonda Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shonda, how does your business help the community?
My business serves the community by providing a welcoming, supportive, and faith-centered environment. With over 34 years of haircare knowledge, God uses me not only as a stylist, but as a vessel to minister spiritually to those I encounter—both inside and outside of the salon. This work is part of my personal ministry.
Anointed Hands Salon is where I bring dead hair back to life—but the transformation goes far beyond hair. Many clients have shared that after leaving the salon, they experienced a renewed sense of positivity, spiritual clarity, or a deeper understanding of situations they were facing in their lives. The salon is a space for healing, encouragement, spiritual nourishment, and connection.
I am also committed to giving back to my community by partnering with local churches to provide free haircuts for back-to-school events. In addition, I look forward to partnering with breast cancer awareness organizations by offering my knowledge and education to support individuals through their haircare recovery journey and beyond.

What should our readers know about your business?
My integrity and spirituality sets me apart. Just think about the name of my salon “Anointed Hands “. Early in my life, I felt this was my calling from God. I’ve had several clients tell me that they have been praying and seeking answers from God about their hair care and when they came across my salon, there was an instant attraction. They stated they felt this is where they needed to be. I spend a lot of time listening, and I’m very detailed oriented. I take time to take a deep dive into what they are wanting. I’m a HEALTHY hair stylist. My goal is to make sure your natural hair is at its very best. I feel, when you sit in my chair, it’s a ministry. My faith brought me here, so that’s my testimony! I didn’t have money and credit to start this business. It was all God! I stood on Faith and a Word! This all came very unexpected. My first shop fell into my lap. I walked into a building and everything was ready to go. No debt, no huge overhead. It was all God!
I’ve learned during my journey, what to do and what not to do. Over time, I’ve made some bad financial decisions, but I’ve learned to rebound after those missteps and keep it moving.
I’ve also learned how to pour into people. I try to be sensitive to what people might be going though when they sit in my chair. My business is truly a ministry to me, and I try to have that decernment into what might be going on with people. I talk to them. I tell them about God. Sometimes it might end up being a prayer meeting. Sometimes it might be a cry meeting. Just whatever is needed while making your hair look beautiful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a good question. Truthfully, I don’t really do a whole lot outside of work and church – just to be honest. Perhaps I need to branch out a bit. If I had a friend to visit, I think I would just ask friends and clients for any recommendations they might have. A client of mine recently recommended True Kitchens and Kocktails in the downtown area as a good place with good food to take out of town guests, so maybe I would give that a try. Another option would be to just ask them what they would like to do and make it happen.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give recognition to my mom and dad who were my biggest supporters in my career.. Although they are no longer here, I know they are still watching over me and everything that I do. They taught me life lessons such as hard work, how to be persevere through suffering, how to stand strong, be consistent and to finish what I start. My fuel, however, is having faith! This business is a faith walk. This has been my sole provider for 34 years! So shoutout to God!
I would be remiss if I didn’t also give a shoutout to my son! In all these years, he’s never complained about mommy working, So shoutout to Taylor!
