We had the good fortune of connecting with Lhana Richard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lhana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was always very creative as a child I began dancing when I was 5 years old. Around the age of 8, I saw a family friend in a production of “Oliver Twist” at a local community theatre. My Mom states that during intermission I turned to her and said ‘I want to do that”. From there I began to audition for local Theatre companies which led me to perform in professional Theatres in my local area for most of my childhood. I then became homeschooled so I could partake in multiple productions at the same time. But once the pandemic hit, all of the Theatres shut down. It caused me to turn down a new path and I began to pursue film and modeling. This leaves me to where I stand today! I pursue this career because it is my true passion and brings me pure joy. The adrenaline rush I feel on stage, behind or in front of the camera is beyond compare. It is also a place where you can thrive to be your true authentic self and let your creative mind run. Now that I have been in this industry for a few years I find nothing I would rather spend my time doing than a type of performing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The first major set I was a part of was “Spirited”. My experience on that set was like a teacher writing 100% on their student’s paper, it secured the fact that this was the atmosphere I want to be in for the rest of my life. But it was most definitely not an easy journey. In this industry, you hear the word “no” more than you hear “yes”. It can be degrading and cause you to lose your drive, but if you put in the effort and keep reaching beyond the stars. You will be rewarded with something great. I have had to make hard decisions regarding my career, but I have learned no matter how many times you are rejected it all becomes worth it for that singular “yes”. More importantly, everyone is unique in their own way, treasure that because that uniqueness is what makes you different from everyone else in the room.
I have worked as an actor in multiple independent films with some bigger exciting things in the works. I am a girl who was homeschooled for acting, and then went back to school so I could get the “Teenage Experience”. A girl who juggles school, friends, my career, and everything else I enjoy doing. But what sets me apart from other people is my eye for the craft and how much I love doing it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting the Seacoast for the week obviously the first thing we would do is go to the beach! The beach is one of my favorite places to be, we would definitely grab some Acai bowls and eat them while sharing a blanket on the sand. The Seacoast is a wonderful place to visit I would take them on a drive down the coast and probably stop downtown. Grab a bite to eat and do some shopping. I am personally a huge fan of mini golf even though I am not the best at it. I would then most likely take them to a local concert event or see a show playing at a local theatre.
If you are to take a vacation to the Seacoast I would heavily recommend getting some seafood! I recommend grabbing a lobster roll at “The Beach Plum” they are my favorite.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Patrick Dorow and Jennifer Towle were my first-ever acting instructors and taught me so much. I would most definitely not have pursued this career without their knowledge and encouragement to take the risk. They saw the potential in my talents and pushed me until I believed in them myself.
My number 1 support system is my parents and family. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today if it wasn’t for their sacrifices and support of me and my dreams. From coming with me to set, to being my scene partner in audition tapes. I would be nowhere close to the person I am today if it was not for them.
