We had the good fortune of connecting with Ralph Tedesco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ralph, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For my business partner and I the idea was to be able to have the control over the things we wanted to create. We’re writers and we’re storytellers but it felt like we were waiting around for others to validate our work and rather than do that we wanted to take the initiative. That was the initial inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Zenescope is not just a comic book publisher, but an art production house and a production company. We’re proud of the mark we made on the comic book industry the last 17 years and the influence we’ve had which is vast. Our greatest asset as creatives has always been to think outside the box and not be afraid to take chances. Those risks don’t always work out of course, but some will and that’s where you see the payoff. As far as challenges, there’s so many all the time. I think the one thing is staying ahead of the competition in a niche market. There are always companies that will want to imitate your success and that’s something you can’t help. So you need to continue to evolve. As far as our story and brand, we have built the largest female driven shared universe in comic books today and that’s something for us to hang our hat on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m actually based in Austin, TX myself, but was just in Dallas for Comic Con and travel there for work. All I know is Las Palmas for Mexican and Pizza Testa is pretty good. There are also tons of great spots in Lower Greenville.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my mom of course has always supported my career decisions. She’s encouraged me to always follow my dreams. My entire family was always in my corner with whatever I wanted to pursue and that was the most important thing for me. To know my loved ones had my back is a big deal.
