We had the good fortune of connecting with The Artist Dub and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Artist, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am naturally a very creative and artistic person. I started drawing, painting and writing while in elementary school. It has always been a way of life for me. GOD gave me this gift to share with the world and to make a difference in not only my life but others as well. Art is relaxing and therapeutic. It gives one a chance to express themelves and gives others a chance to view things in their own perspective.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
ABOUT THE ARTIST I started out sketching and painting at the age of seven, winning nummerous awards throughout elementary and high school. I have also given back to the community by instructing art for The City of Dallas Cultural Affairs. I currently do cover art for various music artists, paintings for executives, companies, personal paintings, and a painting for the narrator of the Grammy nominated Netflix series, “Who Killed Malcom X” among others. My art has been featured in the Berklee School of Music newsletter and Voyage LA & Dallas magazines I feel that my art is different because I individually and literally take the time to paint each piece without sketching it first or using any type of graphics. You can say that it’s from scratch. I paint abstract, contemporaty, urban, etc… All of my are is done in a classy, contemporary and minimalist way, to showcase what’s really important and worthy when it comes to art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that I am an artsy nature person. I love art shows, listening to live bands, going to plays, poetry and spoken words sessions, comedy shows and being outdoors. I am also continuing my journery on becoming healthier so eating somewhere healthy is important. We would hang outdoors at a patio that serves healthy food and has a live band playing and just enjoy the vibes. I love to laugh alot and have fun so a comedy show is on the itenerary for the next day for sure! After that we are going to kick off our shoes and dance into the night!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to GOD first and foremost for being by my side and with me through everything, myself for believing in my self, encouraging myself and never giving up, my children for giving me the determination to push harder and stay motivated, and my close friends. for being good friends and being there when I need them.
