We had the good fortune of connecting with Zach Karp (Odd Zac) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zach, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been interested many types of art. Wether it be music, movies, or just writing in general. There is something beautiful and humbling about starting a project in your mind and taking the steps to bring it to fruition. It doesn’t always end up how you thought it would but it is always worth it. I pursue art because it enables me to put emotion on a canvas. Music has gotten me through all of the ups and downs of life and if I can do that for someone else through my own music, I am satisfied. Wether its one person or a million people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The creation of “Odd Zac” was always supposed to surpass any generic assumptions of what rap “should” be. I want to people to hear music and be stunned by either the flow, lyrical content or ideas that are being presented. Making music can be a breeze when things just “click”. It can also the hardest thing i’ve ever done when I have an idea of what I want to say and show through the music but have a random case of writers block or collaborative troubles, but like I said earlier, It is always worth it. There has been times where I wanted to give up and times where I actually did give up due to not feeling like I was skilled, creative, or recognized enough, but it never lasted long. If the world went deaf i’d still be rapping. It is something that motivates me to get through the hardest trials and tribulations like the death of a loved one, heartbreak or depression and if I didn’t have some of my favorite artists in those times, who knows where I would be. It may sound a bit extreme, but its true. I want people to remember back when they were kids and they would “play pretend” and imagine all these amazing worlds and incredible events and dreams in their minds. I want them to know that same imaginative child is still a part of you and it has more power than you know, so let it out in any possible way that you can.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This might be the boring part of the interview because I have grown to be a big home-body and spend most of my weekends with my family and animals, reading, watching movies, listening to and making music. With that being said if I wanted to take a friend out I would drive them through down-town fort worth and hit a karaoke bar. After that, head down to eagle mountain lake and have a night-swim. After that I’d go to the movie tavern in fort worth and see a good movie. I also love seeing shows at the venue named “tulips”. When its spooky season we are definitely going to the “cutting edge” haunted house.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here with out my Mom. She has always supported me in doing what makes me happy and helping me to put in the work that is needed to get to where I want to be. Also a produver and audio engineer by the name of Cayden Bernard 3 of my 4 albums were produced mixed and mastered by Cayden. He is incredibly talented and taught me most of what I know about musical theory. Those three albums would not have sounded the way they do if it wasn’t for him. So shout out to Bernard studios. Another artist I want to shout out is Cody Lewis, also known as Mysterio music. Recently, he has pushed me to experiment with different sounds and styles and break genre-barriers and I am excited to see what we come up with next in our edm/rap/hyperpop duo called “Night Child”.
